Qosmio X875 has BIOS v. 1.30 and now is asking to upgrade to v. 6.10

Hi to all.

I own a Qosmio X875 which according to the information I get from running msinfo32, has BIOS v. 1.30 installed at this moment.

Now, Toshiba Service Station is recommending me to update to "BIOS version 6.10 for Satellite/Qosmio P870/P875/X870/X875".

Is this correct? I mean from v1.30 to v6.10 is a BIG leap I think...

If you read “BIOS Change history” you will note that BIOS designed for Win7 starts with version 6.00 so everything seems to be OK.

Anyway, is there some reason for BIOS update?
Do you use Win8?
If not don’t change anything and be happy.

Thanks Terentino.

The thing is that my Qosmio x875 was purchased last month with Windows 7 installed and my Bios isn't version 6.xx. Mine is version 1.30.

My laptop qualified for the $15 Win8 upgrade, which I'm using right now and everything seems to be fine. I don't know if the upgrade will give me a better performance or not. That's what I'd like to know.

You're right when you recommend not to upgrade BIOS if everything is OK. I've had terrible problems in the past doing BIOS upgrades that I've learned the lesson.

It's strange that my Bios version is 1.30 isn't it? What the 6.xx versions bring that 1.30 doesn't?

Hi guys! I went ahead and updated my BIOS.

First thing I noticed was the change in the boot screen. Now it just says "Qosmio" without any other messages as before. Even the directions to press F2 for BIOS setup and F12 for Boot menu, have been removed.

What annoys me is that now I can't disable the "Panel Open - Power On" feature. Now, the laptop turns on whenever I open the panel. I have disabled it in the BIOS but it doesn't work.

I think this new update is not 100% compatible with Qosmio x875?

Other than that the other functions seem to be working OK.

Thanks for the feedback.
As you can see BIOS update is always a bit risky and you can be faced with some undesirable side effects.

Yes, it has it's risks...but I upgraded thinking that there were going to be new features compatible with Windows 8. But so far haven't seen anything new... I remember updating BIOS on a Qosmio F45, and the fans stopped working and the laptop shutting down due to overheat! hopefully there were instructions to downgrade creating a bootable CD and I was able to revert and return to the previous version.

I'm also noticing that the touch pad turn off from time to time!!! I don't know if I'm punching a combination of keys that provokes that or what! .. if this kind of problems persist I will take my laptop to a Toshiba authorized center and make them flash my BIOS with version 1.30... or maybe will try to do it myself...

I will create a new thread if I confirm this is a glitch in BIOS v6.10 and Qosmio x875.

Good idea. They have old BIOS and you can also ask what is wrong there.

When you will start new thread post some detailed feedback.
