Satellite Z830 - Wireless adapter drop out/conflict with USB

My Satellite Z830 has a wierd problem. The wireless connectivity works well until I plug a usb flashdrive into the usb 3 port on the side. The wireless then drops out after a period and from then on it cant find any wireless connections available. It effectively kills the wireless adapter, or at least makes it less reliable.

You have to reboot to get the connection back. I've tried with a few different usb storage devices with the same outcome. Both the wireless connection and the usb drive work fine, but not at the same time. This happens regardless of whether using the battery or when plugged in. I checked the power settings to ensure there wasnt some problem there. Everything is just on factory install/settings generally, so I cant imagine it is anything I've changed.

I'm at work, but I'll see if I have the same problem with the usb sockets at the back, and/or with powered usb hard disk, when i get home. This is really annoying, as you cant use the net and leave a usb disk in without risking a drop out. I havent checked messing around with USB root hub settings or IRC issues as this seems unlikely. Any thoughts or is the a "give it back to Toshiba" issue - I'd rather not have the down time. It took me quite a while to work out this was the problem.

The wireless connection itself is very strong where the ultrabook is being used, so isnt a signal strength issue.

Hi

To be honest I never read about such similar issues.
Did you check if the issue happens using other USB ports or does it happen using one special port of the Satellite Z830?

In your case I would also recommend using the HDD recovery option and to set the system back to factory settings to ensure that this is no software related issue.

I have the same issue with my Z830. I have downloaded the lastest drivers for both USB 3 and wireless decives. Very strange! The USB 2 ports are OK but not the USB 3 port. Can we have I fix for this please.

My Z830 has had poor wireless connectivity, with low signal strength bars showing , whereas other Toshiba laptops, eg Satellite in the same location have full bars . The Z830 drops out regularly. The right side USB has had a wireless mouse plug in it all along, and when moved to a left side USB has resulted in an increase in apparent signal strength, altough still less than the satellite comparison. So thanks, advice has helped, sofar at least, and Toshiba needs to fix this up.
