Satellite P850 - Temperature raising very fast

Hi, I recently adquired a Toshiba Satellite P850-12Z.
I am happy with it, is fast and solid like my previous Toshiba laptops.
But, I suspect that the thermal paste is not well applied in the CPU.
When doing a stress test, the temp raises from 60ºC to 93-95ºC in just 2 seconds.
Then it suddenly drops to 75ºC, and it rises again to 95, and so on,, all this happens 3 times in 2-3 seconds.
It seems that its the on-chip thermal protection and its threshold.

I know that the cooling in a laptop usually get 80ºC or more, but its gradually and not instantaneous, lets say in 15 secs at full load to reach that temperature.
The GPU goes well, it idles at 50ºC and reaches 67ºC after a minute.

This situation makes me believe that I'm not experiencing the full power of my core i7 3610qm, as the turbo boost won't work due that fast rising temps, and also it seems to be idling when reaching that temperatures.

What should I do? I suppose that cleaning and applying artic silver paste on the CPU will void my warranty, or not?

Thanks
Pedro

To be honest I’m fan of Toshiba P series and now I have third Satellite P notebook. It is P500 and I’m so happy with it but it will be nice to have newest Satellite P, something like P875.

Back to your issue. Of course on this virtual way it is not easy to say if described issue is related to silver paste on CPU and this should be clarified with authorized Toshiba service provider in your country.
What should I do?
I recommend you to contact nearest ASP and ask for help or opinion.

Definitely. You are not authorized to disassemble notebook and such step will void valid warranty.

Don’t make anything on your own. Call service and ask for help.

After a better analysis of the problem, this is what I get:
After 10 minutes of work I get a repeating cycle of 35 seconds at 2.3GHz until it hits 104ºC, and 110 seconds at 1.2Ghz until it cools down to 90ºC.
Is this a joke? 25% of the time at 2.3GHz and 75% at 1.2Ghz? Equivalent to...1.47GHz CPU??
The room temperature now is 17.2ºC, what will I get then, when it heats up in a sunny day, at 24-30ºC?
My previous laptop was Toshiba too, but after 5 yeas it became obsolete, but still working! That's why I did choose Toshiba again.
This time, I am very disappointed with Toshiba and this laptop.
I contacted Toshiba by email explaining the issues, and they still haven't responded after 5 days.

edit

After 40 minutes I get 35 seconds at 2.3GHz and 140 seconds at 1.2GHz.
Better get cheaper i5 and will perform the same or better...

In every country you can find an authorized service provider… the ASP is the first contact person regarding the hardware problems… I really don’t understand why you send any mails … just get in contact with the guys and let check the unit…

What I did was to fill the technical support request with all the details of the issue, expecting to get a response telling me what to do, because actually the nearest toshiba service provider is a bit far away, not a lot, but just I don't want to loose my time until I get a response from the tech service. But if they don't tell me anything I will go and explain them the problems.

To see if I'm the only with this issues, please download a CPU stress tool and let it work, and tell me if your cpu stands at 2.3GHz over the time or it clocks down.
I used AIDA64 system sability test.

All this became from strange behaviour in some high cpu demanding apps.
They would perform at, let's say, 10.000 points, but after a while they went up and down , 10.000-4.000 for example. And that was strange for me..until I installed AIDA64 and saw what was happening
