I got a R850 and complete random the laptop lockups. When it locks up fans begin to spin full speed and windows is locked up. I need to poweroff the laptop and start again.

This can happen three times on a evening, but it can also occur only ones a week.

Its complete random.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what happen exactly.
Every new notebook is delivered with clean preinstalled OS and something like this should not happen. Later when you start to install updates or own applications it can happen that some background application “blocks” the system.

In my opinion either you must check preinstalled stuff, processes that run in the background to see which one can be responsible for this, or you must install recovery image again and check how it works with “factory settings”.

Hi

Does the notebook supports fingerprint reader?
If yes, you should check this:

Intermittend hang up or freeze of your machine (with possible high rotation FAN) under Windows 7 - 32 Bit / 64 Bit

In such case its advisable to update the fingerprint driver/software
