Hi
The serial key which you found at the bottom of the unit belongs to the Toshiba OEM image which was preinstalled on your notebook.
Usually you cannot use it to activate another system…

Well i did think that i would need to use one of my XP PRO CD's to get this laptop back working..........and since the Product Code Label is long gone the text is worn away and since i might be buying another Toshiba laptop with Win7 and would want to do a dual boot and since if i had to do that it would be because the TECRA was DEAD it would seem reasonable to use the product code from the XP PRO that was on the TECRA.
Still fighting with the TECRA and not getting logical answers or errors BUT that is for another thread

FIXED IT............NINE DAYS LATER!!! I have no idea what was causing the BSoD really (NO HARDWARE PROBLEMS) but eventually after trying almost everything and getting nowhere i ran the Toshiba Product Recover CD and everything was hunky dory. Then i upgraded the memory and the HDD and ran the Product Recovery CD with the new 1TB HDD in the PC and XP PRO is working fine BUT i am about to give up on MS OS's and will install UBUNTU LINUX initially as a dual boot and see how i get on using that
OEM pre-installed MS XP PRO will not allow you to use a 'purchased XP CD i kept being stuck at the enter Admin Password even though i knew there was no password on the account i even went as far as getting some password recovery software to prove that - then of course I discovered on the MS support web site that i cant use any other CD than the recovery CD that came with that PC to repair or reinstall XP
