WiFI does not work on Satellite M105-S1021

My TECRA stopped with the BSoD (on another thread) and i had to get out my old Satellite M105 - S1021 and try and get it going again.

WiFi does not work on this Laptop even with the switch at the front switched on and when i put in a USB WiFI module with an external antenna i get a very poor signal from my wireless router in the room next door < 20 feet away

Hi

I found the specification data sheet for this old Satellite M105 series:
Satellite M105-S1021

It looks like the notebook was equipped with an Atheros 802.11 b/g Wlan card.
If your internal Wlan card does not work, even if you has enabled the external WLan switch, then I would recommend checking the device manager firstly… check the Network Adapters area for Wlan card… usually the Atheros Wlan card should be listed there… if its not listed, install the Atheros Wlan driver…

Furthermore beside the Wlan hardware switch, you have to enable the WLan using Fn + F8 …

Regarding the USB dongle and low Wlan signal:
Well, possibly the USB dongle antenna signal is too weak… at the other hand you should test the connectivity using 802.11 B or 802.11 G standard only…

after loading the drivers it is working fine now just with the front switch though no need for the F8 key
