Satellite P855-10G battery discharges even powered off
Posted: 18-Jun-2012 15:08

Hello!!!

I have Toshiba Satellite P855-10G with 15days and he consume 15% battery all 24hours after I shutdown and remove the charger.

After 3 days when i turn on my pc i only have 55% battery
If i shutdown and remove the battery he doesnt consume anything. That means that is not a battery problem

What can i do?

thanks any help

Hi

This can happens if some option in BIOS are enabled.
For example: the enabled Wake Up on LAN / Wake up on keyboard options could be the reason for the battery discharge issue.

In such case you would need to disable this. Save changes and check if it worked.

Hi

It could be possible that your notebook enters the sleep mode or hibernation mode instead to be shut down (powered off).
Be sure that the notebook is OFF and then press power button and after that press immediately the F2 button to access the BIOS.

Hi

The Wake Up on LAN can be disabled also in device manager –> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab
Set it to “disabled” and reboot.

By the way: in BIOS everything looks ok but I would also disable critical battery wake-up

Hi
Some Toshiba laptops supporting the "Panel Open - Power On" feature. "Panel Open - Power On" allows to boot up the laptop by opening the display panel when the laptop is in the shutdown state.
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ1A037V0000R01.htm

Check if your notebook support such option and if yes, disable this!
Otherwise I don’t know any other option which would waste the battery power even if the unit is OFF…

Are you shutting down your laptop using Windows? From your post it would suggest you could be pressing the power button and the laptop is sleeping or hibernating . If you want to close down Windows using the power button then you need to go into the Power Options in Control Panel and change the power button settings

hi
no i go to start and then shutdown
i dont press the button to shutdown.

the problem to enter to bios was that i first press start button and than F2
and on my pc i have to press and hold F2 and then the start button
i see it in the instuction manual that was the problem.

on monday i go contacte toshiba to activate the warranty before the pc make 1 month
i cant solved it
if it is a software problem they can solved it at the moment i think
if it is a hardware problem they have to fix it.
in the instuction manual they say
When you turn off the power of you computer with batteries fully charged, the batteries will be exhausted in 33 days for the 6cell 48wh and 45 days for the 6cell 66wh.
i dont now my but in my case it will be exhausted in 8 days and that is not acceptable

i have lost one week to solved it and dont see a way too fix it

thank any help and your time to help me i appreciate that tonny paupau and peterk.
