This article will tell you 3 ways to solve the problem of the CD/DVD drive does not read the DVD disc. Please process step by step.
Solution1. Clean the DVD disc
If your drive can not detect the inserted DVD disc, the first thing you need to do is to clean the DVD disc. Use a dry and soft cloth (not brushed) to wipe the disc from the center of the disc toward the edge. Please take care not to use a paper to clean the disc with a circular motion, this will scratch the disc.
After cleaning, inert the DVD to the drive to see if it works, if the drive can not still read the disc, use a wet cotton cloth with water or rubbing alcohol to re-clean the disc. After the disc dry out, re-inert the disc to the drive. If the drive can read it, the operation completes. If not, please turn to the solution2.
Solution2. Check the disc to see if it has been damaged
Draw the DVD disc from the drive, and check if there are some scratches or small cracks on the disc. If the disc has been damaged, please try another DVD disc to see if the drive can read it. If the drive can not recognize the new disc, there might be a problem with the CD/DVD drive. Please turn to the solution 3.
Solution3. Clean or repair the CD/DVD drive
When a CD/DVD drive has been used for a long time, its capability of reading disc will become worse. Then the drive can not read some discs, or crashes your computer in the middle of the disc reading. This is generally due to the ageing of some parts of the drive, CD/DVD drive dirty.
Open the drive to check if the DVD drive accumulates dust and dirt, if so, use the cold air of a hairdryer to clean inside the DVD drive. Be sure not to blow on the optical pick-up by mouth, or clean it with a cotton cloth with water or alcohol. After cleaning, insert a DVD disc to the drive to see if it works. If still not, you might need to call the drive’s consumer service or take the drive to a computer repair shop.
