Satellite Pro R850-18K - usage of combined socket for microphone/headset
Posted: 15-May-2012 07:01

This laptop has a combined socket for microphone/headset, but I could not find on market headsets with 4 pin jacks working correctly. I have some mobile-phone headsets with 4-pin plug , but if I plug them into the laptop socket, both the internal mic. and the headset mic. stop to work.
Acc. to manual it should be work !

On my previous Toshiba I used the the 2 plugs mic/headphone (red/green plugs), but if I connect it to Pro 850, the internal mic. will not work.

Can somebody recommend, what type of headset I need to look after to be compatible with R850 model ?
  • USB connection should be fine ?
  • so called 4-pin plug should work,if not mobile phone accessory ?

If somebody already solved this issue, please advice me.Thanks.

Correct
Hi

Yes, according to the user manual you should use an 4 pin headset headphone to get the headphone working.
If you use other prang than 4 pin both mic (internal and external) would be disabled.

On my previous Toshiba I used the the 2 plugs mic/headphone (red/green plugs), but if I connect it to Pro 850, the internal mic. will not work.

I assume that 2 pin prong will not work in this case since the notebook supports only one mic/headphone jack.
So what do you think about the usage of an 4-Pin to 2x 3-Pin 3.5mm Headset Splitter Adapter like this one:

Hi,

This adapter is a good idea.
For any case I bought a USB connected headset, make sure it will work.

Note: I have some 4-pin headset provided to mobile phones, but they are not working.

Thank you.George
