Satellite P300-1AN - forward and backward compatibility
Posted: 07-May-2012 21:18

Hi all,

fisrt of all thanks in advance to anyone could help me.

I had some problem with my Satellite P300-1AN, which comes with Vista Home premium, I think for some 'bad' SW installation something is becoming to be 'unstable' (i.e. Help guide disappeared and also search file is not working anymore, plus other 'spot' things...).

So, since vista is not my favorite one (too long boot up time), I'm planning to move backward (Win XP, which I have disc already), or forward (windows 7, that I would need to buy).
So here is the question: is P300-1AN compatible (I mean are there every driver available for) to Windows XP or Windows 7.

Last: is it possible to upgrade directly WITHOUT making a CLEAN install (to avoid backup or re-install SW) from vista to 7 (and if yes which one: home, pro, ultimate?!).

Thanks again
BRs

Satellite P300 run perfectly with Win7. I have installed it last year on brother’s P300. It runs really good and stabile. Performance is also very good.
In my opinion you should not even think about WXP. Install Win7.

Generally speaking it is possible but I prefer always clean installation so I strongly recommend you to make the same.
If you need help and some assistance with Win7 installation (right install order) let us know.

Hi

You can use both: Win XP and Win 7.
But I would prefer the Win 7 since this is the latest and best Windows system.
Furthermore the Win 7 will be supported longer than Win XP and all newer applications would be designed for Win 7.

Hi all,
thanks for Your replies.
Do you think it will be better to move to 64bit or 32bit kind of win7?!
Consider that I would like to use P300 for video editing in HD (will Adobe Premiere cs4 or 5 run on this HW?!?)...

Thanks again :-)

Win 64 bit is better if your notebook would be equipped with 4GB or more RAM.
Win 32bit system recognized max 3.2GB.

Hello again,
back from long time...
I have here ready on my desk a brand new win7 ultimate version, and I'm just making the 'list' of what's installed in order to have speed up things after 'new' setup.
I'm just wondering if I need to download somewhere all drivers for notebook HW (I see in the PC lot of TOSHIBA stuff, such a bluetooth driver, DVD, webcam and so on...)?!

is there a specific place/site dedicated to this or will Win7 be 'self doing' with his drivers?!?!

thanks to all for new question.

Usually the Win 7 should install all common drivers but of course some specific drivers like WLan, LAN or even display driver (needed to get better graphic performance) should be installed manually.

The other Toshiba stuff (Value added package, flash cards, etc…) expands notebook features… for example if you want to use the multimedia buttons or FN buttons you need to install such Toshiba stuff.
