Satellite C660-28D - Improving the Graphics

Bought this laptop for university work, I do a lot of 3D work on the computer and only just realised the integrated graphics card isn't powerful enough to cope. I was hoping to be able to buy a new graphics card and slot it in but I've been told by Toshiba that the graphics card is soldered to the motherboard and so this isn't an option.

Just wondering if anyone else has had success in doing this alternatively? I know there are ways of having a desktop graphics card attached remotely etc, but just to see if anyone knew of a way that would work on this model of laptop.

Graphic card upgrade is not supported.
I have no experience with usage of external graphic cards but to be honest I cannot imagine that an external GPU would the best solution.

Such parts are not cheap and in my opinion if you really need an notebook with stronger GPU, then you should purchase a notebook with integrated, strong (ATI or nVidia) GPU.

An external graphic chip makes a notebook less mobility friendly… so why using a notebook (+ external GPU) if you could use an desktop PC in such case with more powerful GPU?
