Can I turn off the display on Qosmio X770 whilst I have programs running?

Can I turn off the display of my Qosmio X770 whilst I have programs running such as virus scans to conserve both power and screen life? Most Laptops have a function key to allow this.

Hi

Of course you can do that.
You can change the settings of your power plant in the Win 7 Power Management settings.

Go to control panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan settings

Now change the setting for “Turn off the display”.
I would set it to one min…

In such case the if the notebook would not be touched for one min the display would turn off

Can I turn off the screen by choice at the push of a button?

No, as far as I know you can configure the power button only to access the sleep mode, hibernation mode or shut down.

Why this if display can be turned off automatically after one minute only.

You have other option too:
“Choose what closing the lid does” > set it to none and while certain application runs you can simply close the lid and leave it running.

I don't want the screen turning off all the time. I want control over it.

Unfortunately the small program at Redmonpie doesn't work for me. The screen goes off and then comes back on. Whilst I can set the computer to do nothing when the lid is closed, this still does not meet allmy needs as I would rather closing the lid put my computer in sleep ready to be moved.

I don’t understand you at all. What kind of control you do you mean?
Either is display ON or OFF. What else you want to control???

When display is OFF you must just touch touchpad or press any key and display will be ON again. You can see what happen at this moment and if everything is OK leave it for a minute and it will be OFF again. You can do this numerous times.

Sorry buddy but I don’t understand your point of view.

Hi JFA

I can understand you very well… you want to control the display always pressing an button… of course this would be a nice feature but I didn’t meet such button for any notebooks I had used in the past… its also not known to me that this would be possible with your Qosmio notebook.

Everything what you can do is changing the power plant settings in Win 7 power options… the display can be disabled closing the lid (there is an sensor which would disable the display if lid is closed), or the display goes off after some time.

These both features are available per default with Win 7….

It is a very nice feature, one that I became very used to using on my NEC Versa laptop. It is such an obvious feature to include that I can't believe it is not on all laptops. Obviously with a desktop you just turn the monitor off.

My last laptop, an NEC Versa, had this function and I became very accostomed to useing it. It was so handy, in fact, that I can't imagine why all laptops don't have it. Does anyone have anymore links to programs that might allowme to control the screen in this way on my new machine?

Yeah, too bad that Qosmio laptops don't have this feature. My brother has an Acer and he can turn off the display by a combination of FN and another key, at first I thought I could do the same with my Qosmio, but there is no such option.

Correct
Different notebooks series from different manufacturers supports different features.
Not all laptops/notebooks series are equipped with the same features… so it’s not a matter of manufacturer but matter of notebook series…

However, seems that this is clear now: there is no button which would disable the display manually

Hopefully, someone from Toshiba monitors these discussions and considers the wants and ideas of users for future reference.
