Web camera application error message
Posted: 08-Apr-2012 19:18

Hi,

I get the following message when i try to run the WebCamera application of my Satellite L655 laptop:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or sue the command -line sxtrace.exe tool for more detail"

Any idea about how to solve this problem as I haven't been able to have the web camera's menu bar (since more than two months now) and I was not able to use it on GMAIL chat since last night (it does work though in skype).

P.S. I'm not a tech pro!

Hello Jarnk

Have you tried to reinstall webcamera application?

Remove it from the system (control panel > programs and features), restart your notebook and install latest version that you can download from Toshiba support page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Hi

Can you please inform us about preinstalled OS? Just for better understanding.
Do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your notebook?

Usually everything should work properly with “factory settings”. Have you changed anything?
Since when you have noticed this problem?

Generally speaking, you must not use this application if you want to use webcam with third part software like Skype. Most important thing is that webcam device is recognized and listed properly in device anager.

I deleted the webcamera application from the programs list and restarted the computer but:
1. when i open skype, the camera is detected and it still appears in the device manager
2. When I wanted to download the webcamera driver from the toshiba website's, I got a zip file, which i saved under programs but then it did not want to open!!

So how come that the camera is detected even though i deleted the application from the list of programs and what steps to follow in order to install the new driver?

Yes, Silas , I'm using an original preinstalled OS (windows 7 64-bit). i started receiving the error message since july (may be) but i did not worry too m,uch since it wqorked with skype and Gmail (not anymore with gmail though).

Thanks a lot for your time and for your patience!

Correct
I solved the problem!! I simply re-downloaded the zipfile without saving it and executed the exe file and the webcam application was installed.. Thank you sooooo much Horwath for your valuable help and thank you also Silas for taking the time to answer and to try to help. It would be interesting to know though why was i able to detect the camera even after uninstallling the Webcamera application.

Does the Webcamera application only relates to the camera's toolbar while the device manager concerns the camera itself (sorry for my tech-ignorance.. i do have a PhD though in a different field :)
