Updating ATI catalyst on Satellite Pro A300

Is it possible to update the ATI Catalyst or the drivers for my graphics card? Today I received a notice that something is wrong with MMLoadDrv.exe (sorry I did not remember exactly what it said) and that the update will resolve the problem. I followed the sugested link and tried to download the update, but I could not install it. The following message appeared:

"AMD Catalyst™ Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer.
The version of your graphics adapter is not supported.
Please contact your notebook manufacturer for a graphics driver update."

So I went to Toshiba drivers dowload page and searched for a new driver, but the "youngest" driver that I found is from 2008.

Any advice on how to update the graphics driver will be very much appreciated.

And how “young” is your notebook?
Which notebook model do you have actually?

I have a Satellite pro A300, and it's about 3.5 years old. I do not know why is this important. Nevertheless, I believe that if there is a new (and better) driver, it should be possible to install it.

Hi

Usually you should use the display driver from the Toshiba page.
Such drivers are designed and optimized for notebook and mobile usage…

Of course it could be possible to install the ATI driver from the ATI page too but in such case you have to check the compatibility with the GPU inside the notebook.
Furthermore you will need to install this via device manager.
There you can use the advanced installation procedure which allows you to choose the driver package/folder which you downloaded from the ATI page…

But once again: if you have no problems, the update is not necessary and usage of non-Toshiba drivers might affect the notebook functionality (higher temperature). So be careful with that
