Satellite L500 and Satellite P200 - compatible keyboards?
Posted: 26-Mar-2012 21:52

I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?

Hi

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.

Hi

I googled and found details on different pages… this took a lot of time…

Satellite L500 supports an Toshiba Standard Key layout A4+10key type (A4 Keyboard + NUM KEYPAD) The European keyboard supports 105 buttons.
Keyboard Height: 5.5mm
Key Pitch: 19.05mm(W) x 19.05mm(L)

The Satellite P200 has been equipped also with an Keyboard (layout A4+10key).
But the keyboard height is 4.5mm
Key Pitch: 19.05mm(W) x 19.05mm(L)

So keyboard height is different but all other properties are the same.

Thank you for answers.

On further investigation I found out that the spare number of the L500 keyboard is K000077780, while the number of the P200 is K000050540.
I just called the Toshiba Support and got the answer, that all notebook keyboards have the same connections and spare numbers vary anyway on local layout. As the flat cable should be identical, the only problem might be the position of the connection. The service guy compared a P200 and a L500 and said the position of the touchpad is exactly the same, so it should be possible.

As I can get the "P200-keyboard" for 20 instead of 40 € I will give it a try. I'll be back and complain if it is not going to work ;)

Update: Works as expected. In fact it is the same keyboard, as the identical "ALPS P/N" of both the original and the "P200"-keyboard reveal.
