Satellite L750D - Dim screen after sleep mode
Posted: 17-Mar-2012 09:49

HI all, Purchased my Satellite L750D this morning and have been playing around on it.

Have noticed when I put it to 'sleep', and then wake it back up, the screen remains dim..almost to the point where you cant see a thing. I end up having to restart it and then its fine. Doesnt do it when I select hibernate, just sleep mode.

Any ideas?

Just one question: when the notebook wake up from sleeping mode can you use FN+F7 key combination to change display brightness to higher level?

Pressing FN + F7 does nothing to rectify the dim display problem.

A friend bought this laptop 3 days ago. I agreed to help set it up and was perplexed when I couldn't see the screen.

Is this a design fault with the laptop, the graphics card or ???

Googling the issue has retrieved no answers except for the unanswered question posted here. So what do I do now? Take it back to the store and demand a refund?

Thanks.

I don’t know if warde and Laracy are the same person. Are they? :)

I presume you use notebook with original preinstalled operating system, do you?
Do FN keys work in general? I mean can you see flash cards when you press FN button?

Please make few tests. Test it with hibernation mode and try to sleep mode but with different power plans (balanced, power saver, high performance).

Be so nice and post results here.

I searched in this forum for similar issues, but unfortunately, it looks like you are the first one posting this.
Not quite sure about the solution: of course it might be an hardware related issue and in such case the Toshiba ASP technicians should be contacted in order to check this notebook.
But before you will do this, try to update the BIOS to the latest version and set it to default.
Also the value added package should be updated.

Good luck

Good afternoon Dr.Lamp,

Firstly, no we are not the same person :)

Secondly, the flash cards do appear when I press the FN key however I notice when I use the screen brightness function (F6/F7) either up or down (it is presently set to brightest) that there is no change.

I have set the power save settings for On Battery and Plugged In to Never for all settings which is not the optimal solution. I have set the screen saver to show a blank screen after 30 mins which hopefully saves the screen from burnout.

As a test I have changed the Advanced Power settings to Hibernate after 15 mins but avoided anything that mentions sleep mode. I'll see how that pans out and post my results.

Thanks
tommymyr

I had the same problem with dim screen and the light adjustment not working.
Tried updating the bios, and that fixed the bugs!!!
Everything working properly now...

Hi tommymyr,

I have the latest BIOS version (1.5) installed so unless you are suggesting I reinstall it, I am at a loss as to how to rectify it.

Cheers

So I took tommymyr 's advice and hey presto! IT WORKS!!!! This solution needs to be put on the main page in bright flashing lights.

Strange that reinstalling the BIOS version that was already installed on the laptop should rectify the problem, but what do I care now that the FN F6/F7 buttons work?!

Dare I say that it may have fixed the Hibernate and Sleep functions too. So far when I put the laptop in Sleep mode FN+ F3 or Hibernate mode FN + F4, the computer responds correctly when I press the power button.

My final test is seeing whether it reacts correctly when the screen dims.

Thnaks for the advice everyone and especially tommymyr.
