What can't I run more than 2 displays on my Tecra R850?

Despite the claims that the R850 (with Radeon graphics) will do 4 displays, the most I can manage is 2. I'm trying to connect 2 external LCD monitors and still use notebook as another screen (3 in total).

I've done a lot of searching and although I can find plenty of people having the same problem, I cannot find an answer. I've tried updating the driver although that caused more problems than it solved. I am using W7.

Can someone tell me how to use more than 2 displays on a Tecra R850?

Thanks.

In such case you will need to use an external device like Dynadock

There are different models on the market… check some which would be the best solution for you..

MasterG,

Not the answer I was looking for.

Any laptop will do multiple displays with the addition of a Dynadock. Toshiba however advertises that their Tecra R850 with Radeon HD 6450M will do up to four displays as per the following:

http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/tecra/R850

There is no mention of a Dynadock, I have a High Speed Port Replicator II with sufficient ports.

I've seen this question in many forums, why will no one at Toshiba answer the question? In what circumstance can I get 4 displays to work on my Tecra R850?

Hi beek

I don’t have this US notebook model but your question is very interesting and it will be interesting to know how it works.
Do you have exact this US model?
On most forums, including this one, you can discuss with other notebook owners but you will not find any official Toshiba statement so you should try to contact Toshiba directly – hotline – and ask for help. I can imagine that Toshiba service provider in your country can help you too.

I don’t have possibility to check user’s manuals for this notebook model but is anything written there?

Hi

The Tecra R850 does not support 3 video out ports so without the usage of additional docking station you will not be able to connect tree external monitors!

From my knowledge the 4 displays (1 internal + 3 external) are possible only with an docking station and on models equipped with an AMD chipset.

You could get the four displays in following way:
1) Internal display
2) External connected to notebook
3) + 4) 2 external monitors connected to docking station

MixterX,

My previous posts indicate that I have an AMD chipset (Radeon) and a docking station (High Speed Port Replicator II).

I'm starting to think I need to investiagte the DisplayPort.

In my opinion you should call Toshiba hotline and ask if you can have correct answer.
This is user-to-user forum only.

What you can also try is to ask this on Toshiba US forum - http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computers/ct-p/c_laptops/tshb
Maybe someone there has the same notebook model.

Anyway, if you will find correct answer please share it with us.

The question still does not have a correct answer.
It looks like you expect a answer similar to this: Yes you can use 4 display changing this and this and this settings…

Sorry mate but 4 displays (1 internal + 3 external) are possible ONLY using additional docking station…
This is correct answer even if it’s not your favorite answer :(
