Satellite M305 will not read my battery

My old battery for my laptop recently bit the dust so I purchased a new one. Although this battery works perfectly fine my laptop does not recognize it? Whenever I have my laptop plugged in, it says that I have no battery and when it is not plugged in it says unknown remaining.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Did you notice the same with the old battery?
My first idea is that probably you've purchased not fully compatible battery…

Is new battery original Toshiba battery with the same part number?

Start notebook with AC power supply only and when OS is loaded put battery inside. Is the same situation there again?

I've got used Toshiba Satellite Satellite M305D-S4830 without Vista distr.
Can anybody post an image of original disc at some file sharing? Serial No. needed also - the license sticker has gone

This is no sharing center for images…
If you need one, you can order the recovery disk… I think this should help you:
