Qosmio X300 - new nvidia graphic drivers are uninstallable: no nvidia chip

hello,

i have the qosmio X300-14P with windows 7..
i play actual games (f.e. skyrim) which need the LATEST video driver!

the x300 is said to have a nvidia geforce 9800M GTX video chip.

however, when i download the latest driver (295.73 today), at installation it says :

no nvidia hardware detected - unable to install !

this is so with all nvidia drivers in the last 2 years (with windows 7 and windows vista alike) !

what is the problem ?

did toshiba not include an nvidia chip, but a cheap chinese noname chip, or what is the problem here ?

whatever notebook i had before the toshiba, it would accept actual nvidia drivers.
only the toshiba qosmio x300 doesnt.
why ?

it is vital that i install the latest drivers, how can i get by this problem ?

the driver that toshiba offers for the qosmio x300 is almoust 3 years old (2009, now it is 2012!) -
this is ridiculous!

an actual video/graphics driver is urgently needed, it is vital that the nvidia drivers work.

i ask toshiba :
HOW can i get the latest nvidia driver to work in the qosmio x300-14P ?
which is said to have a geforce 9800M GTX nvidia chip (though nvidia driver says : it does'nt).

how can i get the latest `nvidia drive (295.73)r to work ?

i think i came across this problem on my qosmio

the gpu chip i most likely nvidia but its been branded or modified by toshiba so its not recognized as a genuine nvidia chip

this means that only the signed toshiba drivers will actually recognize your gpu card, but will unfortunately leave you with the latest toshiba driver and not the latest driver available from nvidia

there are workarounds this problem http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ this website provides gpu drivers for many many laptops along with instructions how to make your laptop see the card or simply force the drivers in the system

by the way make sure you are downloading the correct installation pack i.e. 32 bit or 64 because sometimes this can cause this error message as well

i remember from the battlefield 3 gpu test that your card was not enough to play the game, can you really play skyrim on that laptop with this card?

Is it?

If your laptop works fine without any new driver, and you have no proplem do you really need to install any other new driver?

From my own experience, since I started updating/looking for new drivers I started getting problems. Hence now I 'll use what works for my laptop old or new.

Just a thought.

this theory is ok when you dont expect your computer to perform at its highest, if youre casually browsing the web and even then you need to update flash, your browser etc

if youre a gamer i would have to agree with the OP and say that updating graphics drivers is probably the most important thing to do even if it seems youre running without problems

for me the nvidia drivers increase the performance of my gpu in games everytime i install a new one. tested

I take what I said back and I do agree with the op and you blob on having the high spec for gaming. I am not a gamer, I use my laptop for software/Graphics developments and I have my share of Toshiba+ Nvidia hassle daily or so.But as we all know it we have the same persisting problem and it seems that even the new bloody laptops have the same old problem. What is going on?????

We seem to be like dogs constantly barking and no one is listening...

it's a shame that such a big comapany doesn't care.

some of it has been heard in fact as of some days ago we finally received a good working bios from toshiba for our x770s, which removed the cursed gpu throttling

so yeah, took them 8 months but the notebook is finally up to what it was intended to

yes i am a gamer and therefore i need always the very latest graphics driver.
(yes, skyrim runs, but not with highest settings of course).
but i am about to buy a new notebook soon anyway.

this branding is a problem i came across earlier with the toshiba ram already.
that's the reason why this time i dont buy a new toshiba notebook anymore,
i will switch to lenovo.

i thought about the qosmio x770, as it has some nice features.
but they removed firewire etc., well ok, i could maybe live with that,
BUT i CANNOT live without an express card slot !

the xpress card slot is vital, as only there you can expand your notebook.
missing firewire could be corrected by a firewire express card, i always
use e-sata hdd connections, so i have an express card with 2 esata ports
(to have faster hdd writings). one internal esata port (even a combo port esata/usb2)
is just not eno8gh for me, i have usually connected 2 or 3 external drives.
as well i quite often use my express tv + video card.

that a notebook at this price has no express card slot is unbelievable !
this is a knockout feature for me.
i can swallow a lot, but not a missing express card slot, as this is the only feature
that makes it possible to expand a laptop (with a e-sata card, with a tv card, f.e.).
and so i could switch my tvc card and my esata card and whatever else i need
or might need later.

i might have purchased the x770 had it an express card slot, but without
it is so ridiculous that i would never buy it, no matter how good the other features are.

an express card slot is VITAL for every notebook.
that someone could spare it it like selling a rain jacket without a zip.
too bad, because else the x770 is not so bad.
i wonder what made them cut the express card out in a notebook
(that is not expand-friendly anyway).

i saw that some others companies did it as well.
this will not be a fortune, as i foresee that many people will, if not at once, then later
hate the missing express card slot.

it was about time that they put good graphic cards in notebooks (while once they are branded,
they are a hassle, good or not), and now they start cutting the vital express card slot.

unexpandable is the first that comes to my mind when i think about the x770.
the product designers at toshiba seem not to be very good.

branding, missing express card slots - what else may we have to expect in the future ?
i was about time to switch.

can you provide detailed links please ?
please send them as a p.m. or put them in a new thread, since the moderator strangely locked this thread.
if you cannot, i must reopen the thread (create it again).

i would urgently need an actual video driver, the one toshiba provides is ANCIENT !

if they brand their graphic cards, it is of course their duty to always release the latest drivers.
instead, they are extremely lazy and do nothing.

a strong reason to stay away from toshiba notebooks.

however, i am interested in the links that you talk about, since toshiba doesnt care about its customers.
even worse, the moderator here locked this thread, though the question is absolutely not answered and the problem IS NOT SOLVED !

please send it as p.m. if possible.
btw, i go to a 6 weeks holiday on 29.03. and wont be back before 08.05.

i just tried one od the drivers from laptopvideo2go, and indeed it worked.

it is not th very latest, but newer and better than the one from toshiba.

thanks for the hint.

i make the thread as solved now (though it is not satisfactory that toshiba
doesnt provide new drivers, the latest graphic drivers are from 2009, and we have 2012).
looks like they only support their notebooks in the release year, no longer.
not very user friendly.
