Unable to get Satellite L650 to boot and System Repair inaccessible
Posted: 16-Feb-2012 07:21

Satelite L650 Laptop ~ Windows 7.

I have problems with laptop being very slow to boot up for several months until it failed to start. Took it to PC World and they said that I had a virus and that they had reinstalled the software back to factory settings from the hard drive. Worked ok for a few weeks than falied to boot. Restored Windows from recovery option by pressing F8 on start up. Worked fine for a few weeks until last week. Repeated the process and working fine.

On Monday I installed Adobe Photoshop and on Tuesday evening laptop was slow to boot up again, so uninstalled Photoshop. On shut down it installed some Windows updates. Last night when I switched it on came up with a messgae saying making xxxxx registry changes then failed to boot up. Now when I press F8 and select "Repair Your Computer" Windows starts to load files and I then get the System Recovery Options ~ Select UK keyboard and press next then I get a window saying "You must log in to access System Recovery Options. If you are havingtrouble logging in, please contact your computer administrator for assistance. Click OK to restart the computer."

I've not had this on previous reinstalls and I can't get around it. Help!

Hello

In the past I have recovered several laptops many times and this option is always available. Please check follow Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm - and you will see that this option is available.

If you have created password for Windows login you must use it, if not leave it empty and just press OK. Don’t change even keyboard layout just click on next.

Please let us know if you’ve had success with it. Later e can discuss how to make notebook faster by start-up.

I have attempted to follow the instructions in the link provided.
After pressing "Next" at number 2, I get a box headed System Recovery Options with a red cross and the following text "You must log in to access System Recovery Options.
If you are having trouble logging in, please contact your computer administrator for assistance.
Click OK to restart the computer."

There are no passwords set on the laptop.
If I press "Ok" to this message the laptop attempts to reboot.
I get the Toshiba splash screen followed by Windows is loading files, then Startup Repair runs and gives the following message "If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart the computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Click finish to exit and shut down your computer".

If I click Finish, the laptop totally powers down and I have to press the on button and it starts the boot up process again, runs start up repair and I'm presented with the message as above. If I press F8 at boot up I get the System Recovery Options Window shown at 2 in the link in the previous response.
If I press Next I get the message in the first paragraph of this post.

What do you want to do exactly? To repair preinstalled OS or to install OS again using recovery image (HDD recovery installation)?
Have you created recovery DVD? If yes try use this disc.

Hi

I would also recommend start the recovery procedure using the Toshiba recovery disk.
Hopefully you have created such disk in the past.
If not, you can order the disk here:

Thanks for the reminder about the DVDs I had created when I first got the Laptop :) Laptop now running through setup, so hopefully fully back up and running soon.

Hey cool. It’s really good that you have created recovery DVD.

If you will have more problems or questions you are welcome.
