I think this old notebook has old IDE connector so please be sure old one is identical with new one.
80GB capacity will be OK.

Best thing you can do is to remove old HDD and check if HDD is connected directly or with small adapter. M30 is old notebook model and I cannot remember exactly how it looks like but, generally speaking, I’m pretty sure you can use this HDD.

In worst case send it back.

Hi

The interface called PATA supports the IDE HDD.
So I agree with Horwath. You need an 2.5” IDE HDD.
It could be possible that the controller and BIOS would handle max a 120GB HDD so possibly you should test larger HDDs before buying.

I always thought so....

Of course they are ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA

Parallel ATA (PATA), originally ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment)

The ATA interface itself evolved in several stages from Western Digital's original Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) interface. As a result, many near-synonyms for ATA/ATAPI and its previous incarnations are still in common informal use. After the introduction of Serial ATA in 2003, the original ATA was renamed Parallel ATA, PATA for short.
