Qosmio F60 and Seagate Momentus XT problem

Hi !
I need help for solving a problem.
I wanted to change my Qosmio F60 hdd for a Seagate momentus XT (hybrid SSD). I though it was simple but no.
First, my new HDD was not recognized in the bios setup. So i put a jumper to force the SATA 1 mode on the hdd.
Now, it appaears on the bios setup.
With Media recovery creator, I creates a USB boot drive.
So i plug the usb key, I switch on the computer, media recovery launch, it creates the partition, copies the files, all is ok, but when it reboots, it's written to insert a system disk...
Why am I wrong, is there a problem using this HDD ?
I precise that is usb, the same hdd works perfectly.
Is there something to do with the Bios ?
I have not the last update, but my version is from september 2010 I think.
Thank you for your answers.

I reply myself, but is there a way to choose IDE/AHCI HDD somewhere in the bios or HW setup ? I think the solution is here.
Thank you.

Hi
Not sure if the SATA option is available in Qosmio F60 BIOS but some BIOS on Toshiba notebooks support such option. In such case you could switch between the AHCI and compatible mode.
But the Toshiba recovery image contains already the SATA drivers therefore the system should work with AHCI mode or compatible mode too.
but when it reboots, it's written to insert a system disk...
Are you sure that the notebook boots from internal SSD drive where the OS has been installed?
For me it sounds a little bit like the notebook would not boot from this SSD drive.
Disconnect the USB flash drive, set the BIOS to default and try to boot again…

Hi Xaver
Thank you for your answer.
Definitively, there is not AHCI option in the Bios and i'm update.
No, USB flash unpluged, my computer can't boot on the new HDD, even if the recovery process was done succesfully.
I will try a last time with bios seted to default, but regarding I saw on the net, it's impossible to use a ssd or a 7200 rpm drive on this computer.
Last solution: would it not possible to update the SATA controler ?
What i don't anderstand is I just replace a SATA disc with a SATA II disc. It should be compatible.

SATA II HDD will work with SATA I interface. SATA is down compatible so it should not be a problem.
I think the issue is related to the new SSD drive…
Please check if the firmware update is needed for SSD drive… you should take a look on SSD drive manufacuter support page to get more info

I agree, it should not be a problem ! Sata II is downcompatible with Sata I and the old HDD was SATA I.
The Momentus XT is an hybrid HDD, with 4go SSD and 500 Go normal HDD. I thought it would be easy to change the HDD.
I've posted a message on Seagate forum, but it seens I need to set AHCI to IDE. But there is no such options in the Bios.

I've posted a message on Seagate forum, but it seems I need to set AHCI to IDE. But there is no such options in the Bios.
IDE is not needed if the SATA drivers are installed… and the recovery disk already includes the SATA drivers … so don’t think that this can be a problem… anyway the AHCI cannot be changed if the BIOS does not contains this option…
And fact is that Windows has recognized the SSD drive so it cannot be the AHCI issue.

So the problem would come directly from the HDD ? But it works fine with the USB/SATA box...

Possibly… at the other hand it would be interesting to know if you are able to install the Windows using the Microsoft disk. Try this… such disk does not contain any drivers so it’s worth a try…
How about Linux? Does it work with this SSD drive?

Yes, but in fact, my problem is the Seagate HDD is not recognized by the Bios.
Did you check if the jumper is set properly on the HDD?
In some cases the internal 2.5” HDDs supports such option in order to choose the settings master or slave.
Note: If the HDD is not recognized in BIOS then a driver installation will not help you.
By the way: is your BIOS up to date.

I've tried with and without the jumper. With the jumper, I could see the HDD on the bios. But i've lost the jumper so I have to go to a electronic shop tomorow...
As there is only one HDD emplacement in the qosmio F60, I think there is no possibility to set the HDD in master or slave.
Yes, you're right, i'm conscious I must find the solution with the bios first.

Yes, in most cases the CD/DVD drive is set to master and the HDD needs to be set as slave…

Yes, but if I'm right, the jumper on the hdd only forces the SATA 1 mode, no possibility to set it up as slave.

Well, but you said that using the jumper the HDD is recognized in BIOS.
So if it’s recognized in BIOS, then Windows OS should be able to recognize this while setup and installation procedure…
