I'm looking for the latest display driver update for my Portege R600-10T (to see if it'll let me set 1440x900@75).
Went to the relevant page on the uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com, and it showed the following:
30/06/09 | Display Driver | Intel | Windows Vista 32 Bit | 22.214.171.1247 | World Wide
When I checked the full info, it showed the following:
Date last modified 06/30/09
Type Display Driver

Country World Wide
Description This driver enhances the functionality of your display device and allows you to perform different settings, such as Color Management, Monitor Properties or Overlay Control. You can also get help if you have any display related troubleshooting issues.
Model Portege R600, Portege A600
Operating System Windows Vista 32 Bit
When I download the file, it is indeed called display-20081117151809.zip
When I install it, it's version 126.96.36.1997 with a date of 11/07/2008
I'm sure I've selected the right OS, and I tried several different routes to get to the downloadable file, including letting it auto-detect my system. Same result.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something..? Where's version 188.8.131.527 of the display driver?
Ah, I did indeed miss something... I've just spotted where the version confusion comes from:
Production Version Releases

I'd still be interested to know though - is there any way to get my Portege to allow 1440x900@75? I've tried using PowerStrip to add a 1440x900 LCD setting, but it's just not having it (and I don't know enough of the little settings to work out how to tweak it for my LCD).
That makes sense about the date. And it looks like I had the latest version after all.
I started my search on the Intel site, and though they have a driver (which implies the graphics chip can handle 1440x900), it won't install. When I run setup I get a message saying that it won't run on this machine and then aborts - no other options (I can redownload and rerun if you want the exact text).
I also tried using Intel's 'check my system' tool to see what it came up with, with the following result:
Product Detected Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Current Driver Installed 18.104.22.1687
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.
Which is what brought me to the Toshiba site in the first place.
I'm reluctant to override advice that warns of 'technical issues' (and tbh not quite sure how, short of removing existing drivers so the install doesn't detect them and abort - assuming that's the only things stopping it). If someone has exactly the same model Portege/OS as me and has gone down this route without problem, that would be useful to know. Drivers are such pernickety things!
PS - the LCD I've hooked up has PC in and supports 1440x900@75. I can use it as is, just everything is stretched and a bit blurred as a result, and I can't stop it going widescreen on me - the TV isn't that sophisticated!
