Qosmio F60 - Constant High CPU Usage Alerts

Hi,

Approximately 12 months ago I purchased a Toshiba Qosmio F60 6GB laptop.

When in explorer using facebook games etc, I am constantly getting an alert from my Norton advising that there is High CPU Usage.

I have been asking around locally and was advised to remove Norton as this could be the problem. I am not keen to do this as my subscription is still current.

I was also told the other day that it is a common problem with Toshiba laptops using 'Explorer' and that I should use 'Mozilla Firefox' instead which would rectify the problem.

I am in the process of organising this.

Can you please advise if this is a regular problem with Toshiba laptops and your opinion on the above options to try and rectify this problem.

It doesn't really seem to effect my computer, it goes slower and when in task manager it is contantly fluctuation between 5 - 35%

I look forwards to your response.

Thanks,

Melissa

Hi

This is not a notebook problem buddy…
The Norton antivirus is a good antivirus program but it use a lot of hardware resources and from my experience locks the CPU.

I removed this antivirus software and now I’m using Avira Antivir and the avast Free Antivirus software. Both are freeware software.

But I still use Internet Explorer. Of course I installed also the firefox and chrome. All these three internet browsers are great.

Thanks,

I tried installing mozilla and it made no difference, the CPU is still fluctuation between 5 - 35%

I will have a go at removing my Norton and use another anti virus and see if that fixes my problem. It is annoying because we were told these 'Qosmios' were supposed to be fantastic and excellent for gaming - but this CPU issue makes it impossible!

Hi Mellissa

The CPU can be stressed by installed software. This has nothing to do with the notebooks hardware. You can start the task manager (CTRL ALT DEL) and can switch to tab “Processes”.

Here you will see what process might stress the CPU.
Then you can disable this if you don’t need to use this software.

As mentioned above: it’s not hardware related but software related
