that im my sarcasm I was not more specific on the model - as the forum section implies Satellite L series, text tells: a recent one; guess recent models all come with this Recovery Media Creator.

But to be exact: L755 1D6 w Win7 64bit Home Premium and 14 Gigatons of bloatware.

Original post clearly tells: When I had no media the Recovery Media Reminder kept bugging me, but I had to postpone, as the RMC wouldn´t accept a HD, only USB sticks or DVD-Rs (which are so unreliable that you´d need at least three sets for one backup set to possibly work when the Critical Job Detector strikes.

When I had the media, the RMC (actually its launcher) wouldn´t start no longer / at all. No error messages.

I tried the launcher from the Programs directory, extra in Admin mode (though my account is Admin anyway) tried the EXEs in the dir - to no avail.

Looked into Nero which I guess is responsible for burning to DVD. Nada.

When I try to start, the DVD-drive makes a scratching noise. End of story.

Puzzled.

Does Santa set up Windoze for you? Do you have any idea how much work had already gone into setting things up when this ... RMC went from bug- into refusal-to-work-mode?

Is your ultimate wisdom to kill the whole beast and raise a new one when it has a hiccup?

What if the restore is as reliable as the RMC? (What idi.. ehem Amin* is responsible that there is a hidden 400MB partition - apparently responsible for restore AND the 14 Gigs of trash in normal folders and NOT in ISO files that just anybody could back up?)

What if restore doesn´t find the files on the HD, because I changed partitioning? Unthinkable? No, I´d rather bet on that scenario after the experience with RMC (and BIOSes and file systems and Windoze in general). <sigh>

Actually I rather shouldn´t spend my time and just rely on the dear DVDs I already ordered, but I like to see issues RESOLVED so they won´t hit the next one.

Could you please stop reiterating this nonsense and make room for some REAL problem solving?!

The installation is perfectly fine, except this idiotic RMC.

Was too much in a hurry to have a peek at the app log in the Management Console today morning. Experience tells me that the info I´m looking for won´t be there or so unspecific or cryptic that it´s of no use. But you never know.

So, "Check app logs" would have been some good advice. Maybe you can come up with something similarly constructive till I get back to the machine tonite.

BTW: Help says you have to press 0 (zero) for the Tosh Recovery. F8 is something entirely different and MiRKoSoft and not Tosh specific.
