Recovery Media Creator no go

In the beginning Recovery Media Creator bugged me to back up these "modest" 14 GB (FOURTEEN GB!!!!!!!! <arrrggghhh>), but I had neither an USB-stick nor a 100 pieces spindle CDs and time at hand. <sarcastic grrrrin> (Well, I know it should back up to 3 DVDs, but I remember times when I got 40 to 50 3.5" discs or later the same amount of CDs. <g>)

Now that I got the stick TF app won´t start any longer. Tried to set original drive letters,... to no avail.

As I wouldn´t trust in a set of 3 DVD-Rs anyway I grudgingly ordered the DVD set for 35 bucks. (!!!!!!!)

Still, I WOULD like to know how to get this running.
Thx
G.

Hi G

I'd like to help you but I am not sure how since there are ... ehm .. some unclear sections in your post. :)

First - I assume that You want to start the Toshiba recovery media creator - right?
And I guess that something goes wrong :)

Tell us what is happening? can you see that application in the programs-list?
If so, what happens when You click on it? Any errors? If yes, please say what the error is.

Also please tell us what model you got.

L123-123 or something...

BR

Sorry, Tom,
that im my sarcasm I was not more specific on the model - as the forum section implies Satellite L series, text tells: a recent one; guess recent models all come with this Recovery Media Creator.

But to be exact: L755 1D6 w Win7 64bit Home Premium and 14 Gigatons of bloatware.

Original post clearly tells: When I had no media the Recovery Media Reminder kept bugging me, but I had to postpone, as the RMC wouldn´t accept a HD, only USB sticks or DVD-Rs (which are so unreliable that you´d need at least three sets for one backup set to possibly work when the Critical Job Detector strikes. ;-)

When I had the media, the RMC (actually its launcher) wouldn´t start no longer / at all. No error messages.

I tried the launcher from the Programs directory, extra in Admin mode (though my account is Admin anyway) tried the EXEs in the dir - to no avail.

Looked into Nero which I guess is responsible for burning to DVD. Nada.

When I try to start, the DVD-drive makes a scratching noise. End of story.

Puzzled.
Thx
G.

I don’t want to write long story here.
In my opinion you should install OS again using HDD recovery options. With factory settings you will be able to use Toshiba recovery media creator. Create recovery discs using DVD-R medias and problem will be solved.

It would be more comfortable to use external HDD but it doesn’t work.

Hey Xaver,
***what a great idea***. <arrrrgh> I´m trying hard to contain my words.

Does Santa set up Windoze for you? Do you have any idea how much work had already gone into setting things up when this ... RMC went from bug- into refusal-to-work-mode?

Is your ultimate wisdom to kill the whole beast and raise a new one when it has a hiccup?

What if the restore is as reliable as the RMC? (What idi.. ehem Amin* is responsible that there is a hidden 400MB partition - apparently responsible for restore AND the 14 Gigs of trash in normal folders and NOT in ISO files that just anybody could back up?)

What if restore doesn´t find the files on the HD, because I changed partitioning? Unthinkable? No, I´d rather bet on that scenario after the experience with RMC (and BIOSes and file systems and Windoze in general). <sigh>

No, thanks.

Actually I rather shouldn´t spend my time and just rely on the dear DVDs I already ordered, but I like to see issues RESOLVED so they won´t hit the next one.

But thanks for caring. Maybe think a bit harder next time.

Hi again

I agree with Xaver.
Since something in the software is broken, the best thing is to recover from HDD to factory state.

Do this by booting the unit up and press F8 during the TOSHIBA-logo.
You should be prompted with a text-menu having this option as the first one: Repair your computer

Pick that one and proceed via keyboard layout and login to Windows RE were You'll find the recovery function.

Just keep in mind that all data will be lost!! So you may want to back it up before proceeding.

Could you please stop reiterating this nonsense and make room for some REAL problem solving?!

The installation is perfectly fine, except this idiotic RMC.

Was too much in a hurry to have a peek at the app log in the Management Console today morning. Experience tells me that the info I´m looking for won´t be there or so unspecific or cryptic that it´s of no use. But you never know.

So, "Check app logs" would have been some good advice. Maybe you can come up with something similarly constructive till I get back to the machine tonite.

BTW: Help says you have to press 0 (zero) for the Tosh Recovery. F8 is something entirely different and MiRKoSoft and not Tosh specific.

Thx anyway

Respect for your sarcasm but it is a bit too much I think. If you want to discuss about your problem please do this with respect.
Do you have any idea how much work had already gone into setting things up when this
No I don’t and I don’t care about it. If you want to have all working well install recovery image again.

If you don’t want to do this it is your decision but please don’t expect some “magic solution” here. Recovery installation is only logical step if you have problems with RMC. You cannot reinstall it and you cannot repair it.

End of the story.

Good luck.
