I am trying to fix a friends computer, he has formatted and deleted all the partitions on the hard drive and tried to install Windows 7 but keeps getting the message that the install cannot take place???

The error message on trying to install is as follows: "windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu"

It then says the following: “windows cannot be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon"

I know for a fact that the hard disk is fine!!

The full model and number is: Toshiba Satellite C650-182 Part no: PSC08E-02J001EN

Any help would be wonderful.

Do you use original Toshiba recovery DVD for OS installation?
Has your friend created such disc in the past?

Before you start recovery installation set BIOS to default settings.

Hi

The recover disk allows you to set notebook back to factory settings… so if you want to get the factory settings I would recommend using the Recover disk.

The recover disk can be ordered here:

Recover disk contains the Toshiba image. The image is a package which contains the Windows OS, drivers, tools and utilities… this means that using recover disk all these parts would be installed at once…

please does anyone know how i can sort this problem out ??? one thing i noticed in the error message is that it says "amd64" does this refer to the processor because the processor the laptop has is a intel celeron??

but i still do not understand why the recovery disk is not working??

Hi
Don’t think that this entry could refer to the built in CPU…
Is your HDD ok?
Check the HDD using Drive Fitness Test. This is a freeware software which helps to detect some HDD errors. If the HDD would be OK, then I would recommend sending back the recovery disk to the supplier and to request a new disk..
