Equium A100-338 doesn't recognise 4GB of RAM
Posted: 17-Sep-2011 13:45

Hi,

I have an Equium A100-338 laptop which had 32Bit Vista Home Premium on when I first bought it several years ago. I upgraded the memory from 2 to 4GB soon after getting the laptop but it would only use 3GB. Recently I upgraded the OS to 64 bit Windows 7 professional which is all workng fine except the system is still only making use of 3GB of the installed RAM.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of Windows 7 driver updates on the Toshiba website for this model. I tried the available OS independent BIOS update but this failed to complete as it was unable to load a driver file from my AppData folder.

Has anyone had any similar experience or could offer some advice?

Does BIOS recognize the full 4GB RAM?
Check this! You can access the BIOS pressing F2 while booting up.

You can also check the available RAM in DirectX. In RUN (or search) type DXDIAG

Hi PauPau, thanks for your suggestions. In BIOS it say:

System Memory: 640KB
Extended Memory: 3135488KB (3GB if my maths is correct!)

I ran DXDIAG and that shows the full 4GB but under Computer>Properties it says 4GB installed (2.99GB usable).

Because of the graphic card memory…
The part of the memory is shared by graphic card. This is controlled by graphic card driver!
