Hi,

had been discussed in the Nvidia-Diver-Thread already but now here in own Topic: Lots of users of this Notebook got the problem that the Framerate breaks down every few minutes in actual games like Dirt3 which is making em unplayable. When they disable the laptop-own LCD and connect a external Display to play, no more breakdowns occur.

Perhaps the PowerSupply of the Laptop is to weak? Part Number of my power adaptor is DE PIECE: PA3546E-1AC3 which causes this problem. May i get a more powerful adaptor from Toshiba now? If not, i`m going to refund....always playing games on my 50" TV Screen is no solution, i bought a laptop to need NO external Display...

What progam do you use to clock the GPU?

I just downloaded MSI afterburner... I will try this one too!
Thanx. Hope underclocking will do some good!

I've got the same problem with X770-107.
These are the things I've tried so far:

1. downclocking gpu-frequency to 675MHz and 725MHz with EVGA precision:

  • works for unigine heaven benchmark (1280 x 720, 3D Vision off)
  • throttling in unigine heaven with 3D Vision enabled (clocks down to 202,5 MHz)
  • throttling with Burnout Paradise and enabled 3D Vision (clocks down before showing the
first 3D picture)

2. disable speed-stepping (and turbo boost) for CPU in BIOS (ver 1.30 by the way), to
preserve the power for the GPU, no downclocking of GPU

  • throttling in unigine heaven benchmark (1280 x 720, 3D Vision off)
  • throttling in unigine heaven with 3D Vision enabled (clocks down to 202,5 MHz)
  • throttling with Burnout Paradise and enabled 3D Vision (clocks down before showing the
first 3D picture)

3. tried to disable GPU throttling via NVPMManager (Disable Overheat Slowdon Override)

  • no effect

4. tried to disable GPU throttling via GPU-Z (/GTC500OCP commandline-option)

  • no effect

5. email to toshiba, yesterday

  • no answer, so far

I think this is a patchable problem (bios for GTX 560m), because for the desktop GTX 560, one can
find several articles about contributor-dependent enabling of the power limiter. hardwareluxx
has no problems while benchmarking the notebook (31+ fps in unigine heaven, which aren't
reachable with underclocking), so maybe it worked with another graphics-BIOS.

I'll wait a few days for a mail from TOSHIBA support, before returning the notebook. The machine would be really nice, if it would be working as expected.

Best alternative for the X770 with 3D is the ASUS G74SX - you can't find anything about throttling in the
web for this one.

preserve the power for the GPU, no manual downclocking of GPU

  • throttling in unigine heaven benchmark (1280 x 720, 3D Vision off)

5. tried step 1 - 4 with several newer drivers (laptopvideo2go)

  • same result as described und 1-4
  • additional problems, no working 3D vision for example
--> returned to stock drivers (which don't support youtube with 3D Vision)

6. email to toshiba, 2 days ago

  • no answer so far

Qosmio is disappointment for a gaming notebook. Nothing more, nothing less.

I found a way to disable throttling!! Look at this:
***Bios change history, version 1.20
"Added code to notify NVIDIA VGA to change P-State when EC issued VGA protection function."
I thought that if I downgrade my laptop bios to an older version I remove this effect. One problem: If you have bios version 1.30 you cant downgrade bios from the system level. You should unpack bios downloaded from http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/sby5v110.exe (official link) and burn bootable disc (image is in bios folder). Then you must reset system and set dvd/br-driver in boot options as 1st. Next appears the command line and you must write "bios". Press enter and... You have to wait until the bios to install and the system will reset.
DONE

Throttling excluded!! Of course working bios version is 1.10, because in version 1.2 introduced nuisance "VGA protection function"..

Very sorry for my english :( I hope I helped someone :)

Yes, indeed that solved the problem:

30.1 fps in unigine heaven (1280x720, Anisotropy 4x) with no throttlng
15123 points in 3DMark 06 with no throttling

3DVision not tested so far

fan doesn't go to full speed as before
maximum GPU-temperature reached: 70 degree

In my opinion you solved the problem which didn't exist before Toshiba's BIOS patches,
hopefully they'll fix it with the next BIOS-release

thanks MaciekPL

but how did you find the old bios, i've been searching for it for 3 days now and only found 1.30

Heh :D No problem. How I found this bios? This is link to bios v1.3:
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/sby5v130.exe
And this is link to bios v1.1:
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/sby5v110.exe
:D:D:D:D:D:D
You see the relationship? I changed only the name of "sby5v130" to "sby5v110": P

I am glad that I helped you. I also thought a long time what to do:)
