NB550D - Speaker crackle every few seconds

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me!

Whenever I use the speakers (particularly for iTunes, music and youtube) they crackle every few seconds. The audio can't seem to keep up with the video. I've tried to adjust the speaker settings and download an updated driver (the driver doesn't want to download and has frozen part way through half a dozen times). I'm not sure what else to try but I got this particular netbook because of the reviews of the speakers and it's capacity. I think the problem is probably user related!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey,

Do you notice the same problem when using external speakers or a headset?
What operating system you use at the moment?

There is not much what you can do but try updating the sound driver. On Toshiba website you can look for a newer version of sound driver:

It looks like two different problems:

The audio can't seem to keep up with the video

This is rather a problem of synchronicity and you should check audio-video codecs or it's just a problem with speed of your internet connection

Whenever I use the speakers (particularly for iTunes, music and youtube) they crackle every few seconds

Also - maybe a problem with speed of your internet connection (too slow)

One question - what's about plain audio (ex. mp3 file) - is it OK?

Ok. Thanks everyone here are my responses to your questions
I am using the operating system that was on the computer when I got it. It is 32 bit windows 7 starter

I have tried headphones and there is the same problem with the speakers

I have tried a number of times to update the driver, I was finally able to download it but was told that there was an error and it wouldn't run.

The internet speed is the fastest I can get and I don't have the same problem with my PC or larger laptop, with either the video/audio or the speakers. The iTunes files are all downloaded and not streamed so the internet speed shouldn't affect the playback.

I'll try to download the driver again and look into updating the codecs and let you all know!

Hi mate

I’m not quite sure about your issue.
Maybe the sound driver update could help you to sort out this issue…

But if this will not help you, I would recommend checking this Toshiba document regarding stuttering of sound and video playback.

The solution is easy: update the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to at least V10.1.0.1008. The driver can be downloaded from www.intel.com.

Thank you! Nothing worked. I contacted Toshiba and because it is 14 days old, I'm getting a replacement. Let's hope that one actually works!

I hope you will be satisfied with new machine. Friend of mine has the same and I can say it is great machine with fantastic harman/kardon speakers.

I’m pretty sure you will enjoy it.
