NB550D - How do I get cursor to stop being clever?
Posted: 28-May-2011 18:31

I've just bought a NB550D and very nice it is too, I love it. But I just want the cursor to simply move as I move my finger. Instead it seems to want to do some clever fancy stuff and depending on how I move my finger, it will stop moving and show a little horizontal or vertical grey bar, which I then have a problem getting it to move off. I've checked through all the mouse settings but cannot find how to switch the clever stuff off. As nobody else appears to have asked this question, I presume everyone else likes the feature!

Does anyone know how to turn it off so I can just have simple mouse / cursor movement?

Well... I think your "grey bars" are scrolling bars?
This feature appears (on my computer) only, when you use 2 fingers (with scrolling move - horizontally or vertically) on the pad and allows you to scroll without mouse or arrows keys - just let you left finger stay on pad and move your right finger (vertically or horizontally). Not every program dispaly this bar: Word - yes, WordPad - no.
When you get up your fingers from the pad - this bar disappears.
It works OK, but I don't use it in my everyday with NB550D.
I don't know why it's not working OK on your Toshiba. But maybe let try combinaion Fn+F12 to see what happen :)

Correct
it will stop moving and show a little horizontal or vertical grey bar

This is a touchpad feature but you can disable this.
In control panel -> mouse -> Device Setting tab -> Setting button you can find different options.
Here the second option called scrolling provides settings for horizontal and vertical scrolling… disable this… and you will solve this ;)

TomPL and PauPau - thank you both very much for your replies.

TomPL - you were close, but I was still getting this behaviour when only using one finger.

PauPau - spot on, thanks! I had gone through those mouse settings but had obviously got myself confused in regard to which setting did what. Having disabled the scrolling settings, I now have it working just the way I like it!

Thanks again for your help.
