Satellite R630-155 - No express card slot
I have an R630 155 and I don't have a PC card / Express card slot as far as I can determine. The Toshiba manual shows that it would be just under the optical cd drive on the right hand side of the laptop, but I don't have such a slot. Does anyone know if it possible to run a "true" serial port using the usb ports. I have hardware installed out in the field that requires a real serial port and won't run using the normal usb to serial port cable that can be bought. On another Toshiba I use I have the pc card slot and I didn't notice that the new laptop doesn't appear to have this facility. Maybe someone can help / advise?

Hi, I have had a look at the choices, and I believe that the answer is to get the customers who have machines with older serial connections to change the hardware to something newer. The problem, I have been told, is that there is a UART timing issue which is not something that I know about, I'm afraid between newer usb to serial port converters and older serial ports which were actually fitted onto the laptop pcb. Therefore the only other way to replicate the fitted serial port is to use a pc card or express card. USB to serial port converters don't work. As I don't have the pc card slot I will have to use my powers of persuasion to get the hardware on site changed !!
