Satelite Pro S500 - FN keys don't work anymore

Hi there,

my FN keys don't work anymore, I read to download the value added package and I did, but after starting the unzipped exe file, nothing happens..... no windows installer screen, nothing. Please help, I've the Satelite Pro S500-115 Window 7

Remove preinstalled VAP, restart your notebook and try to start installation again.

You can find it listed in control panel > programs and features.

Sorry it's not there, not under Toshiba and not under VAP...... checked every programm in the list, nothing that looks like it....

Wait a moment. Do you use original preinstalled operating system you got with your notebook?

I really don't know, it's been in repair once and they did re-install Windows 7, so..... how can I check this?

Do you have recovery DVD?
Have you created one following Toshiba’s advice?

In my opinion you should install OS again using HDD recovery option - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

After doing this you will have clean preinstalled OS with “factory settings”. So everything should work OK again.

To get fn keys functionality for s500 there are 2 software packages to install

1. VAP (value added package)
2. Flash Cards Support Utility

After rebooting then you will have the black FN menu that appears at the top of the screen when you press fn on the keyboard.

Beats doing a factory install!
