NB500 - Windows XP drivers available?

Hi - we currently buy large numbers of toshiba laptops and PCs for use at ou university, we have our own specially created and supported software images (currently windows XP), we have not really had problems in the past since we can format new laptops and re-install our XP image, however, the NB500 netbooks seem not to have alternative win XP drivers, we contacted toshiba and they said there is no xp drivers for these.

while we plan on producing a win7 image, this is not going to be right away and is leading up to the conclusion of having to stop buying these netbooks.

is it true there are no winxp drivers for these machines?

Hey,

You can check this yourself if there are XP drivers available for NB500 or not. Therefore visit the Toshiba driver download page and search for NB500 drivers:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Notebook > Toshiba > Toshiba NB Series > NB500

As you can see there are no Windows XP drivers available and you must use Windows 7.

Of course you can search on 3rd party pages for drivers but there is no guarantee that you will get all drivers and if they work properly.
With other words: No official drivers available.

Previous user is right. all you can do at the moment is to visit Toshiba support and download page to check if Toshiba offers support for old WXP.

I can understand your point of view but fact is that hardware and software development go forward and notebook manufacturers are focused on new technologies so I don’t think you will find newest hardware that will be offered with old operating system. New hardware is based on new standards and you cannot stay in the past so, your decision to create new Win7 image is welcome and will be movement in positive direction.

I also believe that your university should offer newest and best platforms offered on the market. WXP is history. It is time for your team to say good bye to WXP.
