Satellite Pro S500-11C - Unable to update BIOS
Posted: 12-Mar-2011 23:21

I have downloaded the correct BIOS update from the site multiple times and I have tried both the Windows 7 install that came shipped and booting from a Windows XP (PE) CD. Whenever I try to update the BIOS I get the following message from the "Toshiba BIOS Package" program is: "This computer is not supported".

The file that is linked from either selecting the model manually or by auto detection is P0076v290_EC72V190.exe.

Has anyone been able to flash the BIOS on this model? My thoughts are that the site is linking to the wrong download? Has anyone got a working BIIOS update?

Correct
Hi cremeegg,

On preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba, is Value Added Package installed? This tool is necessary for the BIOS update.

Also load the default settings in BIOS for updating it.

Was the mainboard exchanged on your notebook? This could be also a reason due wrong DMI information…

Many thanks, that has resolved my issue. The laptop was using the OEM build but looks like the IT team removed a lot of Toshiba tools. I've reinstalled the VAP and the BIOS updated just fine. Went from 1.70 to 2.90!
