Froyo update for the AC100

Thanks Toshiba for the Froyo update for the AC100. Bring back the AC100 Forum, please.

Don't give up on this kind of product.

Some have complained that the keyboard layout has changed after the update. Use CTRL+space to change it back. Sometimes restarting the browser helps.

Youtube works now in the Android Browser and Dolphin. Videos and Flash content plays.

I think the update is quite ok.

However one annoying issue;

The AC100 spontaneously goes out of standby and continues draining the battery.

I found two reasons for this.

I connected the AC100 to the Android debugger (ddms) and checked what gets logged when the
unit goes out of atandby. And I found the Fring app (com.fring..) generates a timer interrupt that throws the unit
out of standby. Fring is preloaded and has a default setting to turn on at power on.
So if you turn that setting off in Fring and exit Fring, then you will see it will not contribute to the go-out-of-standby issue happening.

Another reason was if I received a new GMail message, then the Mail app takes the unit out of standby.
So I turned automatic checking for mail to "Never".

After I did this the AC100 has remained in standby for some time now...........

Not all is lost regarding the AC100 even though it took a serious hit with all the bad reviews when on Android 2.1.
Now on 2.2 a lot of issues are gone. Give it some promotion, run a forum, etc. Nice unit and you did a great job getting
a 2.2 upgrade out.

Did you check "Toshiba Service Center" and click "check for updates"? Are you in Japan? Some were saying in Facebook in the AC100 group that the update appeared later in Japan.

I doubt that it will be a nice good way to update, but you can get a partitions from 2.2 Android Toshiba and try to update it manually. You can get a Russian ac100 images by googling "rutracker toshiba AC100" and download torrent from the first result. This forum doesn't allow to post links to non-English web site.

Hello everybody
i just have bought an AC100 and immediately updated to Froyo.
I found inside some browsers like the built in browser and Dolphin it is impoosible to use the @ and € symbols. If i try to do this with ALT+GR and appropriate key it appears just like ALT+GR is not pressed. This not happen with OPERA browser, but, unfortunately, OPERA has not flash plugin.
Someone has any idea?

You can switch to the US-Keyboard via Ctrl+Space and use ALTGR+2 to create a @
After that you could switch back to your Keyboard-Layout with Ctrl+Space again

But sometimes after the switch I couldnt input anything in the data-fields

I dont know why it works with Opera and not with any other Browser (or only in the URL)

Thanks, it worked.
But now, very strange, when returning back to Italian keyboard with CTRL+space the @ symbol works perfectly (!!) with ALTGR+ò (but not the € symbol with ALTGR+e, in that case it displays a "%"). After some "playing" with switching between the two keypad, on English keypad using ALTGR+2 it displays just a "2" apic character...and back again to ALTGR+ò returned to the annoying "ç" symbol instead of @.
This happen with all browsers except OPERA.
I hope OPERA will come soon with Flash support, so i will adopt it as my standard browser!

The fact that Toshiba deleted the forum with all annoying details about this AC100 product that serves excellently as a presse-papier says enough about the way the future support will be.

May I suggest we start a decent AC100 forum on a website that is not censored by toshiba, so the real problems are revealed and addressed by people willing to improve this gem.

Next time I log in I will probably also get "access denied" as happened to my collegues...

Toshiba did a good job coming out with the 2.2 upgrade.
I hope they consider supporting the AC100 in an official forum the same way as with other Toshiba laptop models. After all this model is revolutionary in its user experience compared to all those lookalike Windows notebooks.

Mail app btw has an option to check mail in standby, as i understand it should not wake it up or should put it to standby after check. And here we found the real problem. Device never go to standby itself, so if it was woken up by some even intended activity it will eat your battery until you take care of it.

Mine still woken up even with disabled wi-fi. I'll try to analyze logcat later.

Agree, next should be Android 3.0, Google market and listening to your customers. Btw, you know that Nvidia released Tegra zone app to promote games for Tegra platform. It's really amazing, but i'm tired to download apps trough my phone... AC100 is a %50 of tegra based devices available on the market and it DOESN't have an app from nvidia to promote it?!
Stop killing your own product. Be a bit flexible, it's great hardware, don't destroy it with attempts to create your own walled garden. The major part of Android system is a huge Google Android Market.
