Does Satellite C660 support Bluetooth 3.0?

Hi,

I recently purchased a Satellite C660.
Its said the laptop has Bluetooth 3.0. Is that true??
It works fine for windows 7.

However in Ubuntu 10.10 my Bluetooth does not seem to work. I believe its the problem of missing driver.

Where can I get the latest Linux/Ubuntu drivers for C660???

What C660-xxx do you have exactly?

From my knowledge C660 notebooks are equipped with a WLan card which support also the Bluetooth!
But not all Wlan cards support this feature.
So first of all you have to check the WLan card and to check if it has a BT support.

hi,
thank you for replying. Mine is a C660-I5010.
Please tell me where to get its Blue-tooth driver for Linux.
I am having no trouble using it with windows7.

The Linux is not supported by Toshiba and you can download just Bluetooth stack for Windows OS.
You can allow Linux to search for the device… google a little bit if you don’t know the device properties.
Then you can search in the internet for Linux drivers for this device.

But if the linux does not recognize this device automatically then in most case it’s not supported but Linux
In such case you will need to use an external BT dongle.

hi emil_jo,
first of all you need to know what card is in your machine!
as far as i know there are more than one manufacturer of these cards...

check the device id in the e.g. windows device manager.
you should read under details something like: "ven_numbers+letters&dev_numbers+letters&subsys_numbers+letters"
with this information you are able to search for the manufacturer and if you are lucky they have a linux driver.

you could test some other distributions of linux maybe they have implemented a driver for this special card...
search the wiki of your linux distro to check if there is a support/workaround to get the card running...
in some cases "ndiswrapper" can help you too...

otherwise get yourself a linux supported bluetooth dongle!

let us know the device id and if you found any solution for your problem.

Execute the command:
sudo lsusb
in the CLI console.
Now you should see a
0930:0215 Toshiba Corp.
device. This should be the Atheros Bluetooth 3.0+HS part of the combo chipset (Atheros AR5B195 WB195 CS3 module).
So Bluetooth high speed is supported. Under windows you need at least Bluetooth stack v8.00.02(T) in order to use it.
This is a pretty new hardware. So I would recommend you to update your linux system to the latest level.
