Memory expansion and warranty
Posted: 26-Dec-2010 16:48

Hi

I have a Satellite C650 194 which is about 6 weeks old. It has 1GB of RAM. I was going to add more, however the plastic cover will not come off. I take out the single screw, and the middle of the cover is now loose, but it appears that the corners are stuck down. Is this an anti-tamper mechanism ?

If I open it somehow, does it mean my 1 year standard warranty is voided. ?

One of of my local retailers said it will void the warranty, one said it will not.
How do I open the cover - do I just force it open with a wee screwdriver applied to each corner ?

Thanks
Andrej

Correct
This small memory cover has small plastic holders on the side. You must try to remove it carefully. At the place where was the screw move it upwards but just in the middle that plastic will wrap a little bit and these plastic holders will be loosely.

If you check user’s manuals document you will find exact description how to do this.
Memory upgrade can be done by notebook owner and will not cancel valid warranty.

If you need more assistance with this let us know.

One more thing: use high quality and compatible memory modules only.

Hi

Thank you for your posting, I have got the cover off. I found the best way to do it is to use the thumb and forefinger of one hand to push down on the corners, and use the other hand to pull up the middle This bends the cover, and the catches on the corners come free.

So I have now ordered two of 2Gb PC3-8500 SODIMM`s from Crucial - its the type the manual says to use, and the type Crucial say to use. So this will take it up to 4Gb.

Incidentally, I don`t see any reference in the manual about how to remove the cover, so thank you for the information.

Thank you for your assistance.

Perfect! :)

I just hope your upgrade will be successful. If there is some problem let us know and just start new thread.
