Qosmio X500 - How to use Gigabit LAN?

My gigabit connection sometimes connects at 100Mbit. How do I switch it up to gigabit or configure so it cannects at gigabit?

My DHCP server is a 100Mbit router, but I connect the Qosmio and 2 other computers and an NAS to a GB switch. I made the NAS connect at GB when it originallly connected at 100Mb by switching to static ip and back to DHCP and configuring mtu to jumbo.(9k). The desktop and the other laptop haven't had a problem with this so far, but I would like to be better informed in case the problem arises.

Where can I get more info about all the config settings in the property box for the gigabit adapter? I am sure the amswer is in there somewhere but do not want to disable it by doing random changes to the properties.

Hello

If you want to use Gigabit LAN, you need first of all a cable that supports this high speed LAN connection. As far as I know it must have at least CAT5e specification.
Have you checked this?

Furthermore make sure that newest LAN driver is installed from Toshiba. Check the driver download page.

Last but not least in properties of LAN card in device manager you can choose with speed mode should be used. There you should select Gigabit.

I am sorry I did not make myself clear. I have spent alot of time connected at Gigabit speed. All hardware and drivers have worked. Cabling is to spec. The computer, when started, connects at 100Mb speed and I wish for it to connect at Gb speed.

"Last but not least in properties of LAN card in device manager you can choose with speed mode should be used. There you should select Gigabit"

In the properties page for the adapter from the device manage there is not a selectiom for gigabit. The selection is for 10,100 or Auto negatiate.

Thank you for your input but I have made the basic checks, including those that you have mentioned.

Hi kevinc777,

If you have already made the basic checks, have you updates the LAN driver as well? In your case I would try to reinstall it and newest version you can download from official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & downloads

Can you also post the exact notebook model number and is the BIOS up to date?

What OS you have?
