Left Speaker on Satellite R630-11L produces weird sound
Posted: 02-Oct-2010 15:42

I have an R630-11L.

Inconsistently, a sound similar to what you hear on tv when there is no signal (hissshhh) comes out from it. It porduces this sound every few days but when it comes it sticks for several hours but on and off. Restarting does not solve the problem.

Later on, I figured out if I mute the speakers, the sound goes away. Apparently it is coming through the left speaker of the laptop

It is annoying, especially when you want to concentrate on work or when you want to play an audio file while this sound is active.

I also noticed the left side of the laptop is where most of the heat is concentrated and the fan. Not sure if this is related or not.

My PC Health Monitor says everything is ok, Tempro shows no updates, and actions in the Action Center. So I believe everything is up to date on my machine.

Anyone with similar problem? Any suggested solutions?

Thanks.

Macius

Is Toshiba diagnostic tool preinstalled on your Satellite notebook?
Please use it for hardware check. This tool makes also speakers check. Please tell us if the same will happen again.

I ran the Diagnostic Test and all PASSED.

I appreciate any other suggestions or if anyone is witnessing the same issue to point it out with any solution.

Thanks.

It is happening again. It seems there is something interfering with the speaker (Harddisk or fan rotation maybe? Maybe when both are on?).

I'm hesitant to take it to customer service center yet so they don't mess it up more. Do you suggest that or there might be an opportunity that Toshiba comes up with a solution for this problem on a large scale?

Thanks.

You cannot expect some Toshiba solution if there is no “general or global problem on this notebook model”.
In my opinion you should contact service and they should check speakers functionality. If there is some serious problem with left speaker they can exchange it.

Before I take to customer service I will wait and see if someone is facing similar problem and hopefully they point it out in this forum.

One more thing I have noticed is increasing or decreasing the volume doesn't affect the pitch of the noise coming out from the left speaker. However, muting gets rid of the noise as I indicated before.

Also the noise was abscent during the last 5 days.

I also noticed there is no online support for model R630-11L. Anyone can provide me with a link?

I don’t know what you mean by “online support”…
The notebook is listed on the Toshiba page “gulf” area because the notebook has been released for these specific countries.
http://gulf.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/en/product/Satellite-R630-11L/1090706/toshibaShop/false/

Furthermore the notebook belongs to the PT31LE series and this series is listed on the Toshiba European driver page as well…

PS: If you have noticed this noise only from one speaker, then an speaker issue is possible… I would also recommend connecting headphones in order to check if the same noise would be present…

I believe there is a strong link between the noise produced from the speaker and plugging the cord for recharging the battery. Most of the time the noise kicks off when I plug the chord in. I experimented removing the battery and the noise didn't stop.

It is new notebook with valid warranty. Such hardware related issues should be clarified with Toshiba service provider.
They should check this and repair if necessary

You paid for new product and it must work properly. Don’t waste your time with experiments. Call service, explain the problem and let them fix this.

Oitani, you can search for an authorized service provider here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an ASP

I’m sure you can clarify this problem with the technicians. :)
