Hi everybody,
has anybody tried to install the bios update 2.30?
It is not working for me. I've just bought an SSD and the bios does not recognize it?
Any help?

Usually there should not be a problem with a BIOS update.
Note; the package should e unzipped and saved on the HDD. All applications and processes should be closed before performing an update. |

Hi,
thanks for your quick reply. I was executing the bios installation (file name: bios-20091215171048.zip) and the following error was thrown:
Toshiba Bios Package Ver 3.2.9
Unsupported package Bios Version Ver 2.30
Current Bios Version Ver 2.20
Again, my laptop is a toshiba tecra m9 PT90E and the bios file is the corresponding to my model according to the toshiba's drivers download web page.
I run the installer as an administrator and in compatibility mode for Windows XP sp 2 from windows vista.
The purpose of updating the bios is installing a new SSD hardrive that is not detected by the BIOS

Hi julianh,
Why you try to run the update in compatibility mode?
This update is OS independent and works also on Vista without compatibility mode.

Hi
I run it in compatibility mode because it was raising the error above. It does not run in normal mode either. I think the bios installer is not functional.

Hi
the executable ONLY runs on Windows Vista.

I'm having exactly the same problem with the same model and same BIOS. Why doesn't this official Toshiba BIOS work on this laptop? I don't have Vista so I'm stuck.
Did anyone ever get a fix for this?

OK, as luck would have it my colleague had a copy of Vista to hand. I installed it and the update STILL doesn't work. This is unacceptable. We have dozens of Tecra M9s in our company that need the BIOS update. How can we possibly achieve this?
Anyone? Toshiba, maybe?

As you can see, the user above was able to update the BIOS running Vista.
So its definitely NOT a BIOS problem.
BIOS update needs an installation of VAP (value added package) for Vista.
Did you install this?

I saw no mention of the VAP in his posts, that's why I don't have it installed.

That did the trick - thank you!
However... I've been working in IT for over 30 years and I've NEVER, EVER had to install software on the PC before a BIOS update would run. This is really poor design by Toshiba.
I will pull the HD out of this laptop and use it to update our fleet of Tecras. Unbelievably messy, but hey ho...
