Hi I’m looking for some help installing xp on a NB100, its XP pro if that helps

I tried it a some time ago with no luck via a usb stick with xp sp3 but never got as far as installing, from memory I think it would constantly not recognise the hard drive, as its my step daughters pc I eventually gave up and put ubuntu on which installed no problem.

Has anyone encountered this problem and if so what was the workaround to fix it.

Would I need to completely reformat the hard drive? Usually when I put XP onto a desktop pc I get the usual blue options screens to format and create partition etc but this doesn’t happen in this instance.

I’ve managed to borrow an external dvd drive and will try again tonight I just want to try and get some possible solutions ahead of time in case I encounter the same problem. Also I’ve read somewhere about needing a sata driver or something, will I not be able to install XP without it? Do I need to have this driver when installing and if so how do I get this onto the netbook during the install

Lots of questions I apologise

hi,

I recommend to format the whole hard disk and try to install Os, then.

I managed to install XP ok, i slipstreamed xp + sp3 onto a disc and installed via external dvd

Now here's the problem

I have a corporate xp pro disc with a licence that always accepts the serial when i install xp on a desktop pc.
This install would NOT accept the serial key as being valid, is that because i had slipstreamed the xp pro? very odd
I retried to install with my basic SP1 XP pro (not slipstreamed) and got blue error screen soon after

Would it be possible to attach the laptop hard drive to a desktop pc, install xp onto that, then put into the nb100 (and have to install all the drivers etc)??

Yeah, it should work. I don't see any problems with it.

OK update on this problem

As the NB100 refuses to install at all from my early edition xp disc (bsod) and then refuses to accept my serial key when i use the same edition of xp slipstreamed with sp3 i've been attempting a different way.

I've downloaded Nlite program so i could integrate the sata driver that seems to be a recurring problem during install, integrated it with my standard xp pro disc (no service pack as i think including that is somehow stoppping me entering my serial key during install)

Managed to remove the hard disk from the NB100, plugged it into my desktop pc's sata, booted from the Nlite/Xp disc formatted the entire drive and continued to install xp, got to the setting for language etc and onto entering serial key, the key was accepted (now have concluded that slipstreaming sp3 onto a disc is somehow invalidating my serial key)

Finished the install, i now have the very basic no updates/service pack installed xp pro on the hard drive.

Put the hard drive back into the NB100 tried to boot, got to XP loading screen with the bar that move across followed by bsod error page, rebooted this time changing bios setting to compatibility and this time XP loaded to desktop. As i've installed xp whilst its plugged into another pc would it have included the sata driver i included?? Guess not as i still have to set to compatability

The keyboard seems to work ok but the touchpad seems to not, and several device drivers are missing. I have the drivers downloaded from toshiba page on a usb stick but this is not recognised when i put it in the usb slot, however a usb mouse does work when i put it in so i'm now wondering how i can get these drivers put on.

Been thinking i can do one of the following and would appreciate any suggestions, i could do

1) Remove the hard drive again, plug into my desktop pc as slave drive and copy the drivers onto the drive so i can access them from within xp on the NB100, also copy SP3 across while i'm there

2) Use Nlite again but this time incorporate all the drivers i have downloaded and reinstall xp again on desktop then transfer drive (again would this actually install the toshiba drivers needed as its plugged into another system?)

3) Put drivers onto a disc and try external dvd drive if its recognised (may try that i'm borrowing on from work today)

Lastly has anyone managed to install the sata driver after installing xp allowing them to change 'Compatability' back to what it should be?

Big post sorry!
