Satellite U400 - BIOS update from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit
Posted: 23-Mar-2010 04:58

I currently have Vista 32 bit on my U400. I am planning to do a clean install to Windows 7 64 bit. I have downloaded all the necessary drivers from the Toshiba site for the Windows 7 64 bit upgrade. I have noticed there is a Vista BIOS 64 bit driver. Do I need to install this before doing the clean install or after?

As well, is there any particular order for installing all the drivers, utilities and applications?

Thanks

Hi buddy,

Normally this BIOS update should be done. You will need for using all functions on your notebook.

I upgraded my U400 from Vista 32bit to Vista 64bit. After this upgraded I started updating the BIOS. Everything worked properly during this procedure because I closed all running programs (also AntiVirus/Firewall) and was logged in as administrator.

Regarding the installation order I didn’t find a specific list, so I used this order:
-Chipset
-Display
-Sound
-LAN
-WLAN
-Card Reader
-...

Hi

I would firstly install Win 7 and then all the needed drivers.
Start with common drivers like graphic card driver, lan, WLan, touchpad, sound driver, etc…

If you would notice some problems with the notebook, then you could update the BIOS but maybe this is not needed if everything would run properly!

Thanks Pink Panther for the information. Initially I didn't update the BIOS but decided to in the end for completeness. Everything went smoothly!
