NB200 - Recovery Media Creator and USB HDD

I have just bought a White NB200 and noticed it does not come with a DVD for Windows 7 in the event I ever need to install.
I was advised by the sales person in the shop that I could save a copy onto a USB drive by using writing a recovery disk.
I presume 'Recovery Media Creator' is the best way to do this.

I booted it up and it says it will be 6.7Gb. I do not have a USB thumb drive this size but have a portable HardDisk (250gb) with 120gb to spare.
Even though I can view the drive in Windows Explorer / My Computer, the Recovery Media program says 'Please instert a USB drive with memory greater than 6.7gb' everytime I click the 'create' button.

Can anyone assist?

Hi

I doubt you can use the USB HDD in order to create an recovery disk image.
The Toshiba recovery disk creator has been designed in order to create an bootable recovery disk!
It has not been designed to safe the Toshiba image on the HDD!

So if you want to use the Toshiba recovery disk creator then you have to purchase an USB CD/DVD drive which would allows you to burn the Recovery image on a DVD

USB thumb or USB HDD - whats the difference?!

Secondly, the filesize if 6.7Gb - and the capaticy of a DVD is only 4.7GB so surely this is not a solution either.

The solution to your problem is that you could either use a 8gb USB Flash Drive or a 8.5GB Double Layer DVD.

Hope that helps.

Actually if you use the recovery media creator it'll create multiple discs approximately 5 dvds or 8-10 cds depending on which option you choose to go with dvd or cd. the program will tell you when to insert the discs just make sure you label the disc in the exact order it was created if yours is a little over 6 Gig then it should only take 2 dvds or 6 cds

OK.

I have managed to solve my problem and i hope this helps others.

The USB drive I was using had partitions that I did not know it had so it was not recognised as space available.

Once the partition had been removed it was recognised and has now backed up fine.

I hope this helps.

Did you lose the existing USB data when you created the system image?
