I purchased a T110-107 today and I tried to install Kaspersky as I already have a year's worth of this antivirus. Kaspersky detected the preinstalled McAfee (which I hadn't activated by the way) and asked me to delete all files before continuing. I was taken to the unistall programme screen, found the McAfee and clicked it to unistall and indeed the 4 or 5 related components got uninstalled. Then the netbook got restarted automatically and when I got in and tried to install Kaspersky, it told me to unistall McAfee again!
This time it senses only one item, the Internet Security bit. I went to the Uninstall screen but there is no McAfee to be seen. I did a search for McAfee and nothing came up (except Wild Tangent games which I assume to be unrelated?)
So now I am stuck without antivirus. Can someone help me please? It is too late to ring Toshiba helpline and I got a million things to do in the morning to clear my old laptop and set up this new one. Obviously the antivirus is my No. 1 concern.
I forgot to mention that between the two failed attempts to install Kaspersky, I also got a notice from Internet Security that Kaspersky was trying to access files and I allowed it through.
OK, spoke to Toshiba technical support and they told me to download the McAfee Removal Tool from the Internet which I did. It is a small programme, free to download and quick to use. It cleared all traces of McAfee from my laptop and I was able to proceed with the setup of Kaspersky. However, my Kaspersky was good for Vista so I had to find a free upgrade to the latest version which supports Windows 7 to be able to use it which was a bit of a headache but all is well that ends well. If anyone else comes across this problem, I hope my experience will help them out
