Supervisor password and BIOS settings
Posted: 18-Aug-2009 09:21

When I boot into bios via esc and F1, it wont let me go to any other pages, says the supervisor password is registered but doesn't prompt you to enter a supervisor password to make any changes. I have upgraded the bios version to 2.0 but that hasn't made any difference. I need to change the boot order but can't get into it to change it.

Does anyone have any ideas? How I can force it to ask me for the supervisor password? Or let me go onto the other pages?

Thanks
Akuma

Which laptop model do you have?

Tell us the PSxxxx-xxxxxx number found on the Base Sticker.

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem with a Portege R600-102 (PPR61E-00600CEN) - I press Esc and then F1 to enter the bios but am not prompted for the supervisor password so can only access page 1 of the bios options.

I've googled, searched on here and in the manual and can't see a solultion - can you help?

thanks,

Jay

Hi

Are you sure you didn’t set any user or supervisor passwords?
Usually you could remove it using the Toshiba password utility.

In Toshiba Assist -> Secure you can find the option for Supervisor password and User password.

Remove these passwords in order to get full access to BIOS settings

Hi Tonny,

I have set a superviosr password, and know exactly what it is, but I don't get the option to enter it at all. On all the other (non toshiba) laptops we have, I'm prompted for the supervisor password as soon as I enter the bios.

We had installed our departmental image on the laptop so I don't have "Toshiba Assist -> Secure" installed - I did look at the downloads page for this laptop and couldn't see anything relvevant to changing bios settings.

In the manual it mentions an application called HWSetup but I can't see a download for that either, unless you know somewhere I can get it?

thanks for your help,

Jason

BIOS password can be removed by authorized service only.
Contact nearest Toshiba service and they will remove BIOS password for you.

Same situation here.
For Ivan25: I know my password, I don!t want to change it. I just want to enter it and change boot order.

If you know your BIOS password, go into BIOS settings and do whatever you want.
Where is your problem?

Can you enter BIOS settings using your password?
Do you have full access to all BIOS settings?

Correct
the solution was to press the 'INS' key repeatedly on system start up when the red toshiba logo was displayed and after a few attempts it let me, prompting for the password
