GPU Overclocking on Satellite P100
Posted: 23-Mar-2008 12:33

Hello,

I have a question.
I have Satellite P100-10p. Shall I overclock the GPU (is it safe, and for how much shall I overclock).
I have 7900GS and RivaTuner.

Thanks in advance,

Jan

Ok guys, I made a 1hr testing.
Here are results:
Factory settings: GPU 375mHz, Memory 499mHz

Test app: 36.9FPS
Crysis Benchmark GPU (1680x1050, 0x multisample, low settings): MAX 39FPS

Overclock n4: GPU 408mHz, Memory 540mHz

Test app: 38FPS
Crysis Benchmark GPU (1680x1050, 0x multisample, low settings): MAX 41FPS

Overclock n9: GPU 429mHz, Memory 572mHz

Test app: 38FPS
Crysis Benchmark GPU (1680x1050, 0x multisample, low settings): MAX 45FPS

Summary: -FPS gets a little more unstable on higher mHz, but I have a feeling it runs smoother. Temperature doesn't go over 54 degrees of Celsium.
I will keep testing on even higher frequencies.

Guys, I reached the maximum.

I was playing Crysis on GPU 430mHz and memory 572mHz for about one hour, than I overclocked the card to 475mhz/600mhz and runned Crysis benchmark GPU, and in benchamrk, I reached 50.6FPS, BUT SUDDENLY MORE AND MORE POLYGONS STOPPED RENDERING (got black holes) and after that the GRAPHICS CARD TOTALY CRUSHED. I hit the PowerOff button, and after reboot everything works fine.

Before Benchmark, graphics GPU had 66 degrees of Celsium.

Conclusion:
Toshiba Satellite p100-10p laptop with Nvidia 7900GS survived 21.05% GPU overclock (almost 2 times more as predicted), which is very good result, specially because its a laptop.
Id like to say congratulations to TOSHIBA for making so good laptops.

Ti is nice to hear positive feedback but in my opinion it is pretty risky and the result can be overheating, graphic card damage or permanent running cooling vent. I just hope that everything will be ok. You have done it on your own risk and if something goes wrong you can expect pretty expensive repair costs.

Anyway thanks for your report. Be just sure the cooling vents are not blocked and the notebook can be cooled properly. Maybe you should place your notebook a little bit higher and make more distance between the desk and your laptop. Place it on four CDboxes or something similar.

Bye
