Tecra M1: F12 boot menu doesn't start
Posted: 27-Jun-2007 18:58

Hi.

I have a big problem. After I formated the harddrive for reinstalling XP. I can not enter the Toshiba HW Setup and change the boot-priorities.

If I start the Notebook, it first try to boot the empty HDD, exit with the error-message: "can t find NTLDR" and it doesn't try to boot the DVD-drive.

Hi

How about pressing the “C” button immediately after the notebook starting???

The pressing of “C” will enable the booting from the CD/DVD drive. You should firstly insert the recovery CD and then after new reboot you should press immediately the C button.

Usually this works!!!

No chance. It doesn t work. I tested it now several times, but no booting from the DVD.
I checked the HDD on an other System, it worked fine. And without the HDD the DVD is able to boot like it should.
I can t understand, why i couldnt simply change the boot priorities.

To choose the first boot device on Tecra M1 is very simply. When notebook starts you can see TOSHIBA welcome screen and small device symbols placed under the Toshiba scripture.

When this welcome screen occurs, press right arrow key placed on the right hand side few times (under END button). The welcome screen will stays on this boot menu and you will be able to move small line placed under the symbols. Choose the right device and press ENTER button.

That’s all!

Hi Bill

The strange notebook behaviour is unexplainable.
But maybe you are a lucky man and the tricky solution described here in this forum thread could help you:

@Mores:
It doesn t work. It is not possible to choose an other Bootdevice.

@all:
A Question: On the BIOS Screen, should I be able to choose all Parameters?
When I start up the Bios, I can only set Time,Date and a Bios-Password and nothing else.

@Jeffery:

Thx a lot. This was exactly the same problem and the same way I solved the problem now.

  • On a second PC-system with FDD:
1. Create an win98 Bootdisk, download Wipeout and copy the unziped wipeout.exe on the bootdisk
2. Install the Toshi HDD as C:/
3. Boot up with a win98 Bootdisk
4. Unlock the HDD with LOCK C:
5. Run WIPEOUT C:
6. Restart and boot with win98 CD
7. Run the Setup till all files are copied and shut down the PC. It should be at the first Setup-Restart-Message.
8. Reinstall the HDD at the Toshi and continue the Installation.

And now I m able to Install XP. :)
