I can not install Windows 98
Posted: 27-Mar-2006 06:56

hi just got my C: formated. i want to install windows 98 secound edition earlier. I had XP Professional and when I press "start the computer with cd support and write "Format C:" it it will earse everything but stops when it is going to recreate File allocation unit. Nothing happens if I start the Win98 installation.
It will begin by it self to format and stops on 73% and nothing more happens.

Plz help me, I don't know I might have been deleted and recreated a partiton but I need help.

Hi

It’s not easy to say why it happens. It is possible that there is something wrong with the HDD. The WinXP uses NTFS and Win98 uses FAT32. Maybe this is a problem.
I recommend completly formatting the HDD before starting the unit from the Win98 CD.
You can format the HDD in the DOS.
Check if after this procedure it’s possible to install the Win98 OS.

Hi

Like Juan said try to format the HDD completely and delete also all partitions.
Then try to install the Win98 again. If it’s not possible so check if you can install other operation systems like WinXP.
If you are not able to install and to format the HDD so I assume the hard disk has a fault.
In this case you should replace the HDD.

Hi

I agree with Juan. I recommend you to use some 3rd part software (if possible) like Partition Magic to prepare the HDD for “clean” installation.
