Question about forum performance and moderation time
Posted: 13-May-2006 02:11

This is the only forum I know of where postings have to pass the censorship of a moderator before they are posted. This means that it can be HOURS before your post appears on the site and then further hours before interested persons manage to see it, post a reply and get that reply onto the site, etc etc. The date and time that appears on the post is the time you posted it to the moderator, NOT the time he posted it onto the site.

Is the subject of Toshiba computers really so potentially secret that such tight control of posts is vitally necessary? Other forums seem to manage without such a bottleneck so why not this one?

Hi

The forum is moderated for obscenity and destructive behavior but the Toshiba e-support forum is open to any and all users who have a technical support problem or issue. Any user is welcome to post or answer any posting as long as they are registered users and observe the rules of conduct.

As far as I know there is fixed time where the forum is changed to full moderation time. In this case all messages and topics must be improved by forum moderator.

Please check this Forum FAQs site:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/help.jspa#12
There you will find reasons for the moderation.

Hi Markus, and thanks for the response.

Yes, I see the reasons quoted. I just wanted to point out that other forums seem to manage perfectly well, and more quickly, without such pre-checking of posts.

Furthermore, surely it defeats the object of the exercise when there are periods with moderation and periods without moderation?

Hi

I have noticed that this forum is without moderation just over the night. I presume that forum is closed at this period, probably to avoid some “troubles or things that can make negative image” of this forum.

In my opinion it is very good and on this way the forum will be good moderated.

Hi exeadog

In my opinion every “serious“ forum is moderated and moderator try to eliminate all “bad words” or any kind of profanity. I believe that this forum has the same mechanism for that. It is always possible that some words activate the filter.

Other way I have also noticed that this forum is closed over the night and my postings are shown at the next day. I presume that all written postings will be saved as kind of “pending messages” and will be published when the moderations time begins.

It is obviously Forum policy.

Have a nice day.
