Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago the pointer device (touchpad) on my TOSHIBA laptop suddenly stopped working for me. Ever since the error, I've had to connect a mouse to the laptop through a USB, which can and has become rather a nuisance. Sadly, I haven't the foggiest when technology goes wrong, but is there a way the error can be resolved?

Laptop Model: SATELLITE PRO C850-15T

Many Thanks!

What kind of error is shown exactly?
I dont know which operating system do you use but have you tried to reinstall touchpad driver?

No error is shown - it just doesn't work.

How would one go about re-installing the touchpad driver?

Thank you.

Hi

Does this mean that touchpad does not work after the USB mouse has been connected to the notebook?

In such case please check the touchpad settings (control panel -> mouse -> last tab Advanced)
Here you should see some option called similar to: “disable touchpad if USB mouse is connected”

At the other hand it could be simply possible that your touchpad was disabled.
In order to enable it, you have to use an combination FN + F5 (or just F5)

Hi

Thank you for your response.
I have tried both of the options in which you recommended, however I haven't had any luck in fixing my laptop's problem.

Is there anything else you would recommend?

Many Thanks!

Well, you could try to reinstall the touchpad driver or if this would not fix the problem, try to reset the notebook back to factory settings (using Recovery disk or HDD recovery).
But in such case before starting the recovery, data backup is required
